Using a SIM Card - Worth it?
#2
My R-Sport came with a SIM card. It gives me sporadic 3G connectivity, which theoretically (I've only put 40 or so miles of city driving on the car so far) will add traffic data to the navigation system.
In addition, I assume that it is the SIM card and the resulting 3G connectivity which allows Jaguar's Remote app to remind me where I last left the car parked, whether or not it is locked, etc.
It may serve other purposes as well, but in the short time that I've had the car, I have not yet discovered them.
I have not signed up for any data services, and am not committed to any ongoing payments. I have no idea what if any data limits there may be.

I went to T Mobile the other day to get a SIM card for the XE and our Volvo. T Mobile said the cheapest plan was $20 a month per car! Who the hell is going to use a SIM in their car at $20 a month for limited usefulness? $10 a month I'd consider it, but at $20 is more than Sirius radio!
Car manufacturers need to figure something out as they put all this engineering to offering content via SIM, but very few are going to use it at those rates...

As a side note, how do we disable the "Enter your account" or whatever it says on the NAV screen that pops up every like 10 minutes?

I switched to US Mobile (https://www.usmobile.com/) that uses T-Mobile network, for my wife's 2013 Q5, for the occasional Google Earth downloads.
It's $2/mo for 100MB and $5 for $250MB plus $2/mo "service charge"
So, lowest cost plan is $4/mo for 100MB.
Not sure what the Jag uses the data for but seems like that would be good enough for sporadic use.

I admit the service charge is hokey, but that's what it is:
- 100MB/mo is $2 ($2 for 100MB + $2 svc charge).
- 250MB/mo is $7 ($5 for 250MB + $2 svc charge).
- 500MB/mo is $11 ($9 for 500MB + $2 svc charge).
Hope that's clear. You said you would consider a SIM for $10/mo so I was just pointing out a way to get data on T-Mo network for low cost.

Mine worked for 24 hours and now is dead. AT&T says it was in DEMO mode and the dealer has to activate my 3 month trial. I tried my VZW sim I have for work and it doesn't work in the XE for some reason. Does it only work with GSM sim cards and no CDMA type sims?
I can't even activate the jaguar app until this is working so I am stuck for now.
Can anyone tell me how the sim goes in? I know what direction it goes in just want to know if there is a eject pin or if it is spring loaded. Dealer reinserted mine and now it doesn't sit flush and sticks ut a tiny hair in the correct direction. Hope they didn't break it.

Mine is broken, so I used a tiny piece or a business card under it to keep it in place until the dealer fixes it. I bet the dealer tried a few times the wrong way and broke the locking pin when they put it in initially as it always stuck out a hair.

Even with a valid sim card, it's very buggy. The tech expert at my dealership told me they've received a lot of complaints. The 3G service will turn off and you have to go back into settings, features, connectivity to turn mobile data off. It keeps turning off for some reason. I know they're working on a fix but it's annoying as hell and the AT&T service is spotty. I think AT&T has these sim cards low on their network's priority list.
