Default Still making 2017's ?

So I went to the dealer on December 30th and ordered a new 2017 XF-S, they told me that I would get an e-mail from corporate to confirm my order before they build it. I waited 5 weeks then contacted the dealer via e-mail to let them know that I heard anything from corporate. they replied stating.

"It looks like the model year change over hasstarted affect and they are starting production of the 2018 model XF"

Does this make sense? will I still be able to get a 2017 built but perhaps it will take some additional time now?

Yeah I found it odd, they must be really ahead of the game or they figure there are enough 2017's out there available to the public until te 2018's land here in the states.

Can you try another dealership. I know here on the West Coast dealers have quotas but I don't see why you cannot order a 2017 via the dealer.

There are plenty of new 2016 available on the east coast, USA. Not sure how many S models, but have seen a few.

That's almost a year lead time! I ordered my XF in May 2016 and stipulated a 2017 model. My build started in June but I don't know why.

I am now being told that it will essential be a 2018 model. I cant find much info on the 2018's so I will do some searching here on the site.

I have an appointment in Walnut Creek Saturday to look at one just as I built on line with the exception of the color, I was looking for Italian Racing Red with the red interior, the one I am going to look at is Storm Grey with the Jet/Jet interior.

It does seem strange as I thought it was after mid year that they started to switch over production to the next year model

But - if they are offering to sell you a 2018 instead of a 2017 why wouldn't you take that? Wouldn't it be better to have the next model year?

I didn't really want to wait until late summer to get it.

I ended up purchasing a new 2017 XF-S Saturday and need to do the intro thread soonest.
