Best Tires to Run on a XF?
#21
I had the terrible factory continentals when I bought my car. Horrible vibrations. Balanced and rebalanced every couple thousand miles while the dealer tried to correct the vibration issue. After 15,000 miles one was beyond being able to be balanced. I put BF Goodrich's on and I couldn't be happier. No issues 10,000 miles later.
You just had a poor dealership experience.
Continental will supply a new tire at a useage cost adjusted price for any defective tire, including a full set. There is an industry spec for road force balance, did your dealer road force balance each of your tires?
If your dealer claimed you had four defective tires on one vehicle I say bs to that. You were had my friend, plain and simple.

What profile are those front tires? I ask because there may not be a 245 section 20 in tire available with the correct rolling circumference to match 285/30x20 rear tires and the right load range so your front tires are spinning at a different speed than designed if the wrong section height is fitted. You need 245/35x20 to maintain the correct wheel speeds.
The interplay between tire section width and rim width is not black and white.
Generally speaking a narrower rim will soften the ride and take the edge off the steering effects and a wider rim will do the opposite. As section width goes up it is generally the practice to increase rim width depending upon your objectives. There is a manufacturer recommended rim width range for a given section of tire.
I have found that going down a half inch in rim width when fitting winter tires gives good results, for example. The rim is better protected from impact by the tire bead and the sidewall has more flex.
Your major issue running too much stagger with the same diameter wheels is the aspect ratio. Narrower tires will run at larger slip angles for a given side force generated. It's best to stick close to the manufacturers specification for the amount of stagger unless you understand the effects of stagger and can road test your changes to ensure they remain safe.
Bottom line? If you're concerned about the stagger you are running now find an empty parking lot and test the chassis balance at the limits of grip.

Best Tires to Run on a XF?
FYI...XFR stock is 8.5" front and 9.5" back.
On another note, am looking into the new Coventry Warwick rims. They have a fitment that gives 9" front and 10.5" rear. Am looking seriously at this option.
Anyone who is looking for stock Nevis rims, please PM me to see what might be able to be worked out.

Well, any good tire company, including Continental, offers a tire warranty. You pay for the actual tread used before the tire is replaced. All the major tire companies offer these warranties. Here's the deal though, Jaguar does NOT warranty the tires so you need to know that your claim must be addressed by Continental. Your owners handbook sleeve should have the tire warranty information included.

I find Jaguar to be sensitive to tire irregularities. My X Type was the same. Fortunately my tire supplier is very knowledgable. He updated to a road force balancer a few years ago and only uses that now.
Most tire irregularities insufficient to cause balance issues show up in the steering of a Jaguar because the steering is very good. Fitting the worst tire to the rear axle usually works fine.
You'll get the flat spotting wobble for the first minute or two after moving off after a cold start due to the tire construction, which is not a defect. Only if the wobble persists is it a technical issue.

Falken tires AZENIS PT722 A/S 19" 245/40ZR19 94
Over 25K california highway XF driving at speed no sign of wear.
For most drivers do you really notice a difference - I ask as these are the tires that came with the car and i switched them off a sports jaguar because i wanted the cavalier rims.
