Default Do you like the 2013 XF?

Strange question indeed..My point of this thread is to see how many people will go for the 2013 XF (not talking about the XFR or XFR-S), but the other versions...

The 2.0 TC
The 3.0 AWD
The 3.0 SC

No more V8? .this is what made me buy a 2012..because I still could get the V8 and not have to buy the ultra expensive XFR...

Details: 2013 Jaguar XF

The 2013 Jaguar XF seats five and comes with rear-wheel drive. There are six trims in the XF lineup: XF (base), XF 3.0, XF 3.0 AWD, XF A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission are standard, while XF 3.0 models come with a supercharged 3.0-liter V6. XF Supercharged and XFR models come with a supercharged V8 engine. In addition to these performance enhancements, each trim also adds to the XF’s list of interior features and upgrades some interior materials. For 2013, the XF loses its standard V8 engine, but also carries a lower base price. Additionally, the XF gains a new transmission and optional all-wheel drive. These updates aside, the Jaguar XF is unchanged for 2013.

Same here. Got the 2012 because of the V8 availability. I just love the effortless ways the V8 operates vs. the smaller engines. I think that the buzzy 2.0 is a "blasphemy" in a Jaguar sedan. I also found the XFR an overkill for this kind of car.

You can still buy an XF Superharged, at $68k, much less than an XFR, but I think your point is the naturally aspirated V8 is no longer available at the more moderate prices of a base car.

Forced induction is the way of the future fellas.

5.0L SC V8
3.0L SC V6
2.0L Turbo I4
3.0L Twin-Turbo V6 Diesel
2.2L Turbo I4 Diesel

You can see a trend forming here?

The 3.0L SC is a welcome addition in my eyes. Sure it's sad to see the N/A 5.0L go, but hey there is still the SC version

XFR is overkill? What?

Fuel efficiency at part load plus equivalent performance under full load, what's not to like?

Elevation effects are eliminated.

The variable displacement engine is the holy grail of fuel economy. Cylinder deactivation is not as much fun as a supercharger.

If they had had the 3.0L SC when I was looking to replace my 2010 XF Premium, I would probably not be driving a BMW 528i now! I love the new XF and just drove one. It does not sound like the V8 (but the 5.0L V8 did not sound that good anyway to me, the older 4.2L V8 sounded superb) but plenty of power and torque at lower revs. Loved it. Being in the south, I do not need the AWD.

Default Yes, So Far !

Got my Indigo metallic/Barley 2013 3.0 SC AWD Premium a few weeks ago.

Previously, have had Audis, then Infinitis since '97 owing to my need for AWD in my daily driver. Was excited that Jag finally had AWD model to compete with other luxury marques. V8 availability in AWD model would have been nice, but do appreciate lower price point and (promise of) better fuel economy. Waiting for more break in to go to higher revs, but engine with decent power now. (Drove a 2012 XF loaner--the V8 certainly has more immediate power and sounds wicked when stomped on....) The engine stop/start takes a bit getting used to, and glad there is a shutoff available. New 8-speed ZF is nice, shifts smoother and almost as fast as the twin-clutch 6-speed unit in my '04 TT 3.2.

Keep in mind, V8 power in Jags is a relatively recent phenomenon--6-cylinder
(in-line) power ruled in this marque for most of its existence ( V12's came later), and smaller engines have been available in Europe for many years.
So, its not that weird to have a V6 powerplant in the car....

The car is somewhat of a 'sleeper'--without a 'supercharged' badge, there is no hint that it is getting 340HP from a 3.0 liter engine--am looking into getting the same badges that are on the engine cover to put on side air vents below the 'Jaguar' trim.

Will post some pix in near future.

Regards

Alan

Had a 2.0L turbo loaner and I thought there is no way I could tolerate it on a daily basis. During short 2 or 3 days I had it as a loaner I was ready to give it back and go back to my '12 5.0L.

Yes, the 2.0 is not a good choice for the US. It is a choice for those nations where the taxes rise exponentially with an increase of displacement over 2 liters.

In the UK we too have lost the V8 NA option on both XF and XJ. For your interest the big seller on both cars here is the 3.0 V6 Diesel S. Output is 'only' 275BHP but the torque output is greater than my recent 4.2 V8 SC. It certainly shifts and I am getting to like the 40+ MPG economy of my new XJ. Have to say tho that it isn't quite lighting my fire the way that V8 Supercharger did.

40mpg (on the motorway, I assume...) is pretty darn good for a car the size of the XJ, regardless of the engine.

Jaguar doesn't use the "S" designation in the US--what content does that entail ?

We read about (but don't get) the larger displacement diesel motors that are found in the luxury marques in Europe--the torque and HP numbers on some of those are unbelievable !

Same deal in the UK on the 'S' designation. The XF 3.0D is available in either 240BHP or 275BHP 'S' guise. On the XJ you can only get the higher output diesel motor but it's not badged as an S. My diesel XJ is probably still a bit tight with only 3000 miles on the clock, around town I'm getting mid 30's mpg, out of town the fuel computer will easily show 40mpg and about 42mpg on the motorway cruising at around 80mph. My XJ is a 6 speed. Last week I got loaned the 8 speed 240BHP XF and I got 50.7mpg on a 100 mile round trip. I still miss my 4.2 SC for performance but not the fuel bills!

I'd take a good look at the 4-cyl if they let me have it with a manual transmission.

New to Jaguar, but we have had our 3.0 SC for a little over a month and am absolutely in love with it. Can't speak to the V8 model, but I have always been a fan of supercharged cars.

Noticed one other very minute detail the last time I had a '13 loaner. The door handles on the '13s are much thinner for lack of a better word. Not as smoothly contoured as the '12s and I'm assuming earlier years. Not sure if this was a design change, cost-cutting measure, or a workaround for the sticky door handle issue.

Did notice that they changed the design of the shark fin (nav antenna?) on the top as well, but I was indifferent on that.

V8 here for me as well. SC V8 will be next.

Although, the XJs are still available in Portoflio trim with a V8.

Personally, I'm thinking about trading for the best mileage option they produce. I'm still miffed they don't offer the diesel here in the USA. I travel for work and the mileage is not great on my 2010 but I love the car!
My 2002 xk8 gets much better mileage but I don't trust the damn thing for long trips!! It's actually become my daily driver except for business trips.

Hi guys.. New member here. Just bought a new XF with the turbo 4. Sounds like its not the engine of choice on this thread, but I like it! I'm not that into speed/performance I guess. Just wanted a great looking Jaguar with good gas mileage. I drive right near 75 miles round trip every day to work and love the MPG on this car. The car is absolutely beautiful in ever way. I couldn't be happier. Sorry for the boring first post!

Just to clarify, when you are talking about the 50mpg levels you are achieving, that's using imperial gallons, correct?

Congrats on the Jag! Fact of the matter is that basically everyone is driving something other than the ultimate dream vehicle of their mind - whether it's because of cost, environmental concern, whatever. Personally, I'd love to be driving the new Rapide, but in the meantime I'm thrilled with the Jag and I'm glad you are too.
