Default Door Veneers

I noticed today that the driver's door walnut veneer has slight cloudiness or "blush" in the gloss. The car is 3+ years old, 25K miles.
I then checked the passenger door, and found the gloss was fine, but there is a tiny horizontal crack along most of it.

I only noticed these flaws because the sun happened to be setting behind the car when I opened the door to get out; you have to get down next to the veneer and look at bright light reflections to see them.

I think the crack is a pretty straightforward warranty claim; but I'm not sure how much of a fuss to make over the "blush". (Actually, the veneer would look fine except that there is a small section that is NOTcloudy,) Also, I’m not sure if there is any “polish” which would make the veneer look uniform. It probably has never been cleaned except with a soft (or damp) cloth.

Anyone have experience with these conditions?

Default Door Veneers

I have a crack all the way along my passenger door veneer. It was there when I bought the car 2 yrs old. Unfortunately I suspect it counts as cosmetic wear and tear so I doubt warranty will cover it. But interested to hear how you get on if you try

It's worth a shot if you're still under the bumper to bumper but yeah that's usually going to be chalked up to cosmetic damage. The haziness could probably be buffed out with the right compound but you might want to talk to a pro before attempting. Another option is to do a vinyl wrap over them, I've never been a huge fan of the piano black anyway and have debated doing a high quality carbon fiber wrap over those pieces.

I'd definitely try it if you're under the bumper to bumper. I'm almost positive my dealer would have taken care of it before it expired. They were looking for rattles in my door and replaced everything else that was ever wrong with it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm headed out of town for a couple of weeks, (1000 miles+). Will definitely pursue the crack after that, and the suggestion that their refurb guy look at the veneer. The dealer is JLR, MB, Volvo, and Infinity and their repair/recondition guy is first-class.

Finally talked with the SA today. He says cracked veneer is usually covered for only 1 year/12K miles. He will get a price for replacement veneer, but since I didn't notice the crack until I was examining the "sheen" close-up, I'll wait until it gets worse.

The full warranty should cover any failure during the time and mileage period.

Wear and tear is not covered. However, the car interior should stand up to reasonable use.

I'd be challenging your dealership if I were you.

Curiosu if you are able to get a replacement....my Jag dealer advised that you need to replace all the veneers ...no replacement parts.

Your service advisor is wrong. It is covered under your warranty. Tell the advisor you want to have the AMM from Jaguar inspect the car. That is a defect in material & workmanship & will be covered.
