Default How to change the front brake pads and rotors (HD pics)

I recently got a ticket for removing the front brake pads and rotors on a Jaguar XF and I did the how to for whoever wants to tackle the job. I tried to make it as detailed as possible but I'm open to suggestions to improve it.

I guess the popo didn't like you driving without any brakes on the front.

A lot of the pictures are not showing up... not sure if it's a hosting issue or bad links?

The 09 doesn't have any wear sensors. This is likely a 09 since it has the 4.2L so he wouldn't have to deal with them. I'm not sure when they started using wear sensors in the XF.

Question Any procedure for the supercharged '09 brakes?

Just wondering if there are any pictures for the Supercharged '09 brakes and whether the procedure is substantially different.

New to the forum but glad to have found it. My Dad (84 years old) decided he was done with his '09 XF Supercharged (with 9200 miles!) and gave it to me for Father's Day. Best Father's Day ever! And yes I know, it's a little reversed; I should be buying my Dad the Jag.

My 2012 XF was in for service and the dealer told me that I needed rear brakes, estimate was about $1,000. I checked with other dealers and got pricing as high as $1,200.

Took the car to an independent Jaguar shop and they found that it needed front brakes as well even though the pads measured as acceptable, the rotors were out of round and could not be machined so al of the hardware needed to be replaced. Total cost for all 4 was $1,200, if the dealer had done it it would have been at least $2,000.

The car has about 26k on the clock and I am ticked that these brakes were in such bad shape. I was told that Jag uses rotors that simply get fried at about 20k miles and in the independent shops opinion, the parts are inferior and should never have been put on the car at the factory. They claim that this has been an issue on many XF's since introduction.

No kidding. I guess that he wants to take 2x longer to stop???
Beyond that, the rears will burn out within months since they are smaller and will take the whole 4000+ lbs of the vehicle weight during braking and warp and burn up.
This must be code for something...

The problem is from the pads they use from the factory. They are "grabby," they dust a lot, and they eat the rotors.

The rotors are fine. If they are warped, as in your case, it's because the shops that do work on your car don't torque the wheels properly (listen to me now, and believe me later).

I put EBC pads on the front, and Akebono pads on the back. Much less dust in the front, no dust in the back, much better braking feel, and the rotors don't get chewed up. I wish they made Akebono's for the front. They are the best pad I have ever used.

If you change pads to these brands and always torque your wheel the correct way, you can do brake jobs yourself for $60/axle and do them every 40K miles instead.
