Intermittent problem with car starting
Hi,
I'm a new Jag owner. I bought a 2010 XF about 3 weeks ago. I named him Mr. J. It's a great car and love it. But, it seems to have a little problem. Twice now I've driven it somewhere and when I got back in the car it wouldn't start. It cranks but won't turn over. Both times, when I first started it, it started strong, no signs of anything. But once I parked and came back, it wouldn't start. Both times I got a jump and once I got home, I turned the car off and started it again with no problem.
Has anyone dealt with something like this before? I'll be taking it to be looked at next week because I was advised that with the warranty I bought, if I tried to get anything fixed before 30 days it would be considered a pre-existing condition. In the meantime, I'm looking for some insight from veteran Jag owners.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

My 2010 also had issues every year I owned it with the battery.
The early XFs are very hard on the battery. I ended up have to replace it every year.
I was lucky that it was under factory warranty and they always replaced if free of charge.
If I were you, I would take it to a good shop and have a high quality battery installed that has a 24 month free replacement warranty.

Strong chance the battery is on the way out, XF batteries are notorious for going weak/faulty after around 4 years old, and you could still have the original 6+ year old battery.
First check the battery condition, and if not totally stuffed put it on a trickle charger overnight then see how it goes for a few days.
But if it is the original 6+ year old battery I would replace it anyway before you have more problems.

William, I noticed your car is a 2010 (LED mirror turn signals), but your sig shows your engine size as 4.2, are you sure you don't have a 5.0? the 5.0 AJ 133 was standard for 2010.
