Default Tying down the trunk

Got to haul some lawn timbers and need to tie the trunk lid down. Anybody have a trick for doing this? Its so nicely closed and covered up in there there's no place to hook a bungee. I'd take the liner off temporarily but how to undo the fasteners. They have a phillips head but turning them doesn't do anything. ??

Those fasteners are called scrivets, the most damnable invention ever. The centre "screw" is supposed to screw out but most of the time it just turns and goes nowhere fast, as you have discovered.
Several things you can try to get them out.
First, grab a trim removal tool (or if you haven't got one a thin flat blade screwdriver) and lever under the outer edge of the scrivet, so there is some tension on the "screw", then see if it will turn out.
If that doesn't work (and it usually doesn't), get hold of a jeweller's flat blade screwdriver, the smaller the better, try to insert it between the head of the screw and the outer part, and try to lever the screw up a bit. If you succeed in getting the screw up about 1 mm then grab a bigger screwdriver, insert it in the gap, and lever the screw out some more. With any luck you will get it out far enough to grab it with your fingernails or some small pliers and yank it right out. Be warned, inserting the screwdrivers and levering often damages the head of the screw a bit. The scrivet will still work but it might look a little ugly, so it pays to have some spares on hand.

Scrivet - those damn trim things where upon disassembly, the center piece always flies somewhere it's not supposed to (and which is also usually inaccessible). Compounding that fact is they are plastic and the magnet on a stick can't help retrieve it like with a screw.

Although they confound me a lot less than they used to when they first appeared.

just curious....what other things can you stuff in your jaguar? I can barely fit a car seat back there...and there is barely enough room for my leggy blond...

Haven't had anything sticking out the moonroof yet, but the time may come.

Please don't have your wood sticking out of the sunroof. It's terrible for aerodynamics and people might take embarrassing photos or 5-0 might think it indecent

Terry,
I just had a little play around with the scrivets holding my boot liner in place, and all except two unscrewed no problem. For the two that didn't I inserted my trusty dirt cheap "car door panel remover" tool under the base of the scrivet, and both times the screw now turned out. Go here to get one: Car Door Panel Remover Body Retainer Clip Auto Trim Upholstery Pry Tool | eBay

I would hesitate to carry anything sticking out of my sunroof. If the weight should rest against the open panel it might damage the probably plastic gears or track, Not a good idea or way to save money. Maybe consider adding a hitch for a small trailer?

I think it was mainly a concern for 2010 Kyanite XFR, as he seemed to have a 'wood sticking out' fetish...

After quite a few minutes mucking about and damaging (as you predicted) scrivets, I just jammed the bungee cord up into the latch and snapped it closed. Worked fine.
