Default Visual mods to my XF

I see that many members here are not into modding their cars. While some of you here do some performance modifications such as exhaust, not a lot of you all here are into visual mods. I have owned many cars in the past and almost everyone has had at least aftermarket wheels and suspension work. I have had my 2010 XF Premium for about 2 weeks now and just got the itch again to modify it. I have planned 4 stages of mods for now.

Stage 1 will be wheels. I just ordered a set today that will hopefully be here in 2 to 3 weeks.

Stage 2 will be lowering spring. I wanted to wait until the wheels are on the car so I know what kind of spring to get to minimize the fender gap.

Stage 3 will be the installation of my black pack grille and blacking out all of the chrome on the car.

Stage 4 will be some additional paint work to black out some accent pieces to tie the theme of my car together. I am considering blacking out my roof and side mirrors but want to wait until I black out the chrome first to make sure I am not over-doing the whole black thing.

Included is a picture of what my car looks like the day I brought it home and I will update this thread with pics as my car progresses. Any comments and questions are welcome. Thank for your time folks. Cheers and happy modding

What wheels did you order? I have a SC model, and like the wheels, and also it has adjustable suspension (sport and dynamic), not sure how lowering springs would work on that. My car did come with a rear spoiler which I understand is not standard. I like the looks of it. The S/C has a 20 inch staggered set up which looks good also.

THe mods I would consider are:

Black grille with chrome surround.

Painted calipers (black).

Slotted/driller rotors.

Aftermarker winter wheels (trying to decide this now.)

Illuminated tread plates (a bit pricey and installation is a bit tricky)

In the meantime the car looks great as is.

One member here did some nice black out work on their grey XF, including the roof - looked sharp. Look forward to seeing your progress.

Add your list to the "What Mods Have You Done to Your XF" thread.
Mods are mods whether they be visual or performance.

I'm interested in seeing what you do with tHe suspension. The UK XF owners seem to like the kits from Spires in England and some of the other high end euro tuners.

If you wanted to compare notes, I think somebody recently posted pics of their blacked out XF on this forum.

I am with you tc1728. I am more of a visual mod person. I've never kept the stock wheels on my vehicle either. Well on my work truck I do. Never been into performance mods but don't have anything against it either. So far I haven't done anything but tint the windows(20% fronts, 5% rears and back). According to UPS my rims should be here on Wednesday!! ( 20 x 9 Lexani's CVX-55 all the way around, gotta rotate ). I am gonna get the illuminated door sills and a rear spoiler. Debating on the chrome rocker panels and that will be about it!

I was going to have the shop that is blacking out my chrome do it. I will try to ask a lot of questions and maybe snap a couple pics if they allow it. I'll pass on any tips and pointers that I come across. TC

Got some of the work done today on my XF. Blacked out the chrome strip on the trunk and debadged the trunk. Blacked out the side mirrors and the roof and got started on blacking out the chrome window trim. Will hopefully finish up the window trim tomorrow and will then the shop will install the black pack grille and black out the rest of the chrome on the front bumper and side vents.

The black strip on the back makes the car look really cheap, but as long as you like it.

The black roof looks really good on these cars. I didn't think it would work but I have seen a couple now and it really looks like it could have been like that by design.

Thanks, I expect the wheels to be in next week. I wanted some real 3 piece wheels like what duke_dallas has on his XF, but could not justify the price. I considered getting wheels that look like a 3 piece wheels, but I think fake rivets make the car look really cheap. TC

It does on that color but I would love to do mine since my car is black. The new XFR comes with it black and I love it.

How did you do that?

I don't think that is an actual black pack grill: 2011 Jaguar XF Black Pack - Top Speed

They keep the main ring around the outside chrome on the one from the dealer. Unless you painted the rest black. Eitherway, it looks great!

Not really a fan of the black piece on the back either. I've also been considering getting the chrome on the window edges of my silver '09 XF, since the chrome is peeling anyway. Good stuff overall.

How much is this gonna cost you, if you don't mind me asking? Also, have you considered smoking the tail lights? Not exactly legal from what I understand, but it'd definitely look sexy.

It's a vinyl wrap. Not as clean as paint but It should last me for the 1 to 2 years I plan on keeping the car for.

It's a XFR black pack grille like this: San Francisco, CA 2012 Jaguar XF XFR Black Package New Sedan San Jose, CA Santa Rosa, CA British Motor Car Distributors, Ltd.

To wrap all the chrome and installation of the black pack grille was a total of about 7 to 8 hours work at $95/hr and used about 5 square yards of material at $55/square yard. Plus $680 for the grille.

As for the tail lights. If I decide to paint my brake calipers black, I'll tint the tail lights but if i paint the calipers red, I'll leave them as is. I'm just waiting for my wheels come in to see how I want to do the calipers.

Thanks. It's coming together quicker than expected. Vossen is sending one wheel to my shop on Monday to test fitment and clearance and I should have a set on the car by Friday. TC

Got the rest of the window trim done today and also the 2 chrome pieces on the side blacked out also. Black pack grille was installed also. Only have the 2 chrome pieces on the headlights and the 2 chrome strips on the front bumper left to black out.
