Talking 1995 xj6 drivers door handle cable

Anyone know where I can get driver's door handle cable for a 1995 Xj6? I assume that a XJ6 and a Vanden Plas uses the same size cable.

It is the same size (for the front doors, LWB changes everything). Most of the car parts web sites have got them. Thepartsbin.com I believe has them for $150 or so which is a bit too much. You can also try eBay, or some other salvage yards. Of course, there are some do it yourself variants which are loads cheaper, like $5.

I did a replacement all myself. Below are the instructions.
If you don't follow then please ask.
Good luck.

my advice is to anyone is to remove the door panels and spray the lock mechanisms thoroughly.
Now to the cable replacement. Remove the snapped cable.
I bought a new generic metal cable from a hardware store and
inserted one end into one of those small electrical cable jointing blocks you can buy and
screwed down firmly onto the metal cable. Insert the other
end into the cable cover until it emerges at the other end.
At the lock end, what was once the original cable stop (now the new electric cable block) is hooked into a slot in the lock mechanism. I had to use a mirror inside the door to
see what I was doing!
At the handle end thread another electrical block on to the
cable and insert the cable end into the small round green
plastic tube which is at the handle hinge. Put it in from
the top and bring it out from the bottom and pull it fairly
tightly and place the end through the cable block which
already has the cable inside it. Tighten down with the
screws onto the two pieces of cables (one the whole cable,
the other the folded over end).
Hope this makes sense. If not ask!

Don't know if you've stripped it down yet, but as with all jobs when you
have the thing in front of you it makes more sense!

Did the cable break or just the clip? The clips are a lot cheaper and can be purchased.

Sorry, speed read your message. It was the cable that snapped!
Anyway, perhaps useful for somebody sometime. I read that replacement cables weren't available without the handle mechanism. Don't know if that's true or not.

I believe it is true. I haven't seen just the cable without the handle (new). Of course, it really is quite easy to replace the handle too.

I would like if possible to get a diagram from you and a picture of the electrical jointing block. I don't know what it looks like.

I'm sure you do!
They are widely available everywhere I think. See photos.
For the job choose a fairly small type, cut away the plastic covering and just use the metal part which houses the small screws.

Have you either fixed the cable or replaced it as of yet. If not let me know. I believe that I have one out of a '95 VDP that I could send to you. Let me know if you are interested.

How much do you want for the cable? The sales price plus shipping cost.

I'll send it to you for $30.00. Give me a call at 980-322-3886 if that works for you and you can give me your address so that I may ship it to you.

Default windsheild wiper reservoir

I have two 1996 Jaguar xj6 and they both had leaks in the wiper reservoir. If all you have is a big crack or whole (one of mine had a big hole) you can patch it up with some stuff I forgot what it is called, but you can buy it at pepboys or autozone. it works great. I had a really big hole. I had to put several layers on it but it worked. Reservoirs I understand can be hard to find and expensive ($85). Good luck.

Good suggestion. Mine was that little clip that holds the cable to the handle.

Mine always seems to be the cable. You can just make one with stronger wires from a store... just need a little welder to weld the square tip at the end.

Paid $15 for a wire 10 times stronger
