1996 xj6 throttle body removal
#21
Thanks for the reply. I ended up getting it. Had to nearly tear off the front hose and then cut that piece off and start new when re-assembling (yes, the coolant hoses to the throttle body). It is an XJ6.
Now the only thing I have left to do is figure out how to get the bolt w/ c-clip back on for the cruise. That bolt does NOT want to go up through. Any tricks on the positioning?
Thanks!

Others claim that, yes, the XJR6 throttle body can come off without removing everything on the left side of the engine. Hopefully they'll chime in.
I've tried. And failed. Must not have the knack.

I've next to never worked on cars other than an alternator once, an exhaust manifold once, and tinkering with some electrical and I can say that, with the aid of this forum, this now 36 yo computer geek has a much better understanding of cars in general and also find the help here to make it very very simple. The throttle body cleaning process on my xj6 is almost fool-proof.

I think if you will repost your question at the XJ6 & XJ12 Series, I, II & III forum you will find lots of helpful owners of similar cars. Since your XJ6 is an '86 it is probably a Series III (I suppose it could be a very early Series IV/XJ40 - if so, try the XJ40 forum).
This forum is for owners of '95-'96 XJ6 / X300 models, which are different from your car in numerous ways.

This was a Recall, and Recalls don't expire. PROM sets and the other associated parts still show available though Jaguar Parts. If one shows up, we are still obligated to make the repair per the Recall. I just haven't run across one that hasn't already been completed in ages.

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone know if this also applied to '96 XJS models with the 4.0?

Hi Guys, I had some great advice on starting my non running 96xjr which had been stored for several years, turned out to be the crank sensor. Now its running I now have throttle problems with the engine not ticking over below 1500rpm. Cables up to the throttle body all good but the throttle body itself is stiff and lumpy when operated by hand. Whats the easiest way to remove it, does the inlet manifold or supercharger need to come off for access? Thanks for any help.

I think the official manual says to remove from below. Of course a lift is essential. I've never tried, but I looked and didn't see how it would be possible. From the top is probably easier, although involves removing more things. There are no shortcuts on this one I'm afraid.
