Default 97 xj6 gas pedal sticking, not engaging ?

Let my xj6 sit a couple weeks in rain and now gas pedal not engaging, when I press pedal I can push it all the way till I feel the pedal stopper on the floor without it giving the car gas? Any ideas?

Check the throttle cable and return springs on the top of the throttle body.

Either the cable broke if it goes to the floor or the ball end came out of the throttle. If its stuck like bob linked you on the tsb, and you pushed it to the floor forcing it. You just bent the crap out of the bracket and streached the cable

Hopefully it has Traction Control and the control box absorbed the stress.

Open the hood and check the throttle "linkage" on the top of the throttle body.
It's the driver side of the car right out in plain view. What you describe points to a problem in this area and if the throttle cable is broken or disconnected or the throttle assembly improperly installed it won't operate. Have you had recent work done on your car?

If the gas pedal sticks at off-idle then Bob Gauff's advice would apply.

Good luck

I've had the same thing happen on several occasions. All I ever did was manually move the throttle linkage by applying a slight upward pressure while turning it. Every time, it's freed the linkage. It's been over a year since the last time it stuck.
