Default Driver's Seat Malfunction

In the midst of all the repairs my best friend came over for dinner. His little boy got into the driver's side of the car, let the seat all the way back and then came and asked why it wouldn't move up again.

I laughed and said, "Well of course it won't move up!"

I disassembled the adjuster button/lever assembly to make sure it was making good contact and was able to activate every button except the one to raise the seat back.

Please tell me there is a simple method other than complete removal/dismantle of the seat. Please?

the seat comes out really easy, my passenger seat something similar - it goes forwad, but not back - I need to apply voltage right to the motor to move it back.

4 torx screws, and the seat belt connection. Unbolt, tip up, unplug the wires, out in 2 minutes.

If you remove the rear torx screws and loosen the front you can tilt the seat forward enough to see under it. The mechanical connector to the motor has probably slipped out. easy fix good luck

Thanks for the great help. The seat what mechanically easy to remove, however it was somewhat ungainly. I did manage to get it out of the car without scratching the leather.

The connectors were all firmly jacked into their sockets. I removed the seat back cover and wooden tray to see if the motor for the recline was functioning. Next removed the connectors leading to that motor. Two wires from a 12V source with the chair in a position where the back could move freely. By switching polarity the motor can be moved in forward or reverse. In this manner I was able to raise the seat back to the complete forward position and reinstall the seat into the car.

The switch would allow the seat to move back, just not forward. I got in and adjusted it to where I was comfortable and then covered the terminal for lowering the seat back inside the seat switch with insulated tape so that it could not be used again.

In the mean time, the car is comfortable and driveable. Next I need to determine whether the fault is in the main unit under the seat, the wires, or the connections.

Jack,

I just did the switch cleaning operation as suggested by Gus in the link 2 posts up (#4), and now my passenger seat works perfectly. It took 15 minutes, start to finish.

Thanks Gus!!

Ive tried and retried the same fix. For some reason that one contact will not work. It must be further into the system for mine.

Awesome that your fix worked!!! It's nice when the problem is really that simple.
