Speaker sizes on 1996 xjr
#2
Oddly, Crutchfield states (for the XJR), "No research established for this vehicle", but for the [1996] XJ6, it's stated that the door speakers are 6.5".

I have a 96' with the Harman Kardon Premium sound system. Just installed 6.5"s in all my doors. Depending on the speaker design they could be plug and play. If the speaker surround is set down below the speaker rim, a speaker design like that could be plug and play.
The Speakers I installed (Polk) have the surrounds just about flush level with the speaker rim, and required a ring adapter to set them back off the doors speaker opening.
It did require some additional parts and modification.
The factory speakers are 3 hole mount, but the door panel composite material can be drilled and self tapping screws used. Crutchfield has the adapters to the speaker harness, so that was a no crimp plug and play part of it.

Yep.
Pan84, the position that you have the speaker terminals mounted, you'd have to run the wires across the speaker to exit the cutout on the other main piece of the door panel. You also don't look like to added a spacer ring, looking at your speaker style.
Without a spacer, will the speakers foam surround be vibrating/interfering up against the panel cutout when the speaker is operating? That'll wear a hole in the speaker surround over time...
