2000 XJ8 Coolant Leak
Ok, ifI butcher this explanation please accept my apologies as I've never worked on my Jag before and I have no idea what this part is called and therefore cannot search for it on the internet.
I got a low coolant message last week and when I got home I noticed coolant spurting out ofa hose where it connects by an adaptor (maybe?) to another hose (this one is metal and goes directly into the engine, or at least that is what it looks like to me. These hoses are located behind the engine. It is a big jumble of molded hoses back there and an AC hose passes right over where this leak is and I cant remove that hose at all so I cant really see or feel around this "adaptor" and I am wondering how I would remove it?. I am assuming the hose needing replacement is a heater hose, but maybe just this adaptor needs to be replaced and I don’t know what this “adaptor” is so I am not sure how to remove it and replace it – especially considering it is right below this AC hose that I would rather not have to remove.
Can anyone give me some direction? – I do not want to take my car into a shop (cause I really can’t afford it) and somehow I don’t think there will be a manual in the local library for me to look at. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

thats a heater hose which runs under intake and throttle body ..there is 2 . it goes into a plastic black piece adapter.(left side) and the other side (passenger side )goes into a black plastic piece adapteralso then goes into a big heater hose.. replace the 2 lower hoses.. and you can also replace the 2 black adapters as well.. try not to brake the adapter piece on the firewall side then you wud have to replace a bigger hose whichs harder to do.. re -re intake and throttle body . to replace hoses

to jag_genius - yes, under the intake -- one end of this hose is attached to the plastic adaptor and then to this metal tube that goes into the engine - the other end of the hose is connected to a T-shaped adaptor that itself goes into the firewall - there is no plastic adaptor on that end - it fits right over one end of the T adaptor
the leak is at the adaptor right under this AC hose -- does the adaptor twist off? i can hardly get my hand in there cause of the AC hose so any help as to how to remove it would be great
1) if the leak is at the plastic adapter do i need to replace the hose too? and if so, what do i order? all the heater hoses online appear to be molded hoses, i dont know what to order here
2) same with the adaptor, what is it called and why can i not find it online?

We just solved a similar coolant leak problem. Our 4.0 V8 started leaking coolant at about 45K mikes. First the coolant low warning light would display on the dash, so we would top off the expansion tank. Then we noticed coolant leaking under the car at the rear of the engine compartment. Turned out not to be the expansion tank, but the heater hose which connects to the bottom of the expansion tank.
The replacement part is about $120. Taking the old hose off was the hardest part of the repair job. I'd rate the replacement as meduim difficulty for a weekend do-it-yourselfer.
What I noticed was that the expansion tank, bleeder hoses, and heater valve (a round thing under the expansion tank) are all made out of cheap plastic. So here's my warning to all of you out there. Be careful and gentle taking off the old heater hose. While I was trying to remove the old heater hose from the heater valve, I broke off the nipple that the hose attaches to. A replacement heater valve is $320. I was able to re-attach it using cold weld epoxy, and let it set overnight before installing
the new hose. I've got my fingers crossed that it holds, but I can see that these parts related to the heater are cheap, and probably prone to breaking and failure as they age.
Our vehicle is a 1999 XJ8, but I'll bet the problem is common in the XK8 of the same age.
