It can happen at any station so always be wary if you start getting poor performance or codes about 10 miles after a fill up.
Cheers
That could never happen in Mexico... There is only one chain of petrol stations. Ha ha ha.
Still on the upside, they always offer to sell octane booster additives when you fill up.

Follow the wire back from the attached clip on the thermostat housing, about midway between the intake manifold and cam cover you'll see where that wire ends with a torx bolt showing. Thats it.

Default Question on the cheaper knock sensor used in this write up

Just to clarify, the cheaper knock sensor used in this write up is a OE knock sensor for a 2005 jaguar xj8 4.2 liter v8 and the plug is the same other than longer wiring correct.

For those of you that did install this alternate knock sensor. Can I get an update on any problems or its performance?

Thanks you

David, your pics in the 2010 original post have vanished, any chance you still have them and can repost? If you need a hosting location, email me with the pics and I'll get you the link to where they're stored on our mediafire ftp area. Didn't see any contact method for you in your profile, else I would have PMd ya.

This looks like a great write-up, but the pictures no longer show. Is there any chance of getting the pictures re-uploaded?

Hi
I copied one of the photo image website addresses and was able to get on DavidN website (Frankfurt, Germany). David's website (Water Skiing) has a Photo of David.

I sent David an email from his website, asking him to see if he can repost the photos of the knock sensors for this DIY thread.

Hi
I created a Knock Sensor DIY PDF (16 page) file from DavidN post# 1 and post# 2 and also included Knock Sensor location information from the JTIS21 shop repair manual.

Here is the weblink to the PDF on my mediafire account:

Cool Would this be the same for a 2007 XJ8?

I own a 2007 XJ8 woth 90K miles. I hear the knocking/gurgling noise during acceleration from stop. I have determined that the knock sensors are at fault. Would the posted photos and instructions be the same for the 2007?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Other than this issue the car is a dream to drive.

Thank you again!!!!

Thanks Jim for resurrecting this how-to -- sure helped me (along with your "live" help, of course!)

Default Still experiencing restricted performance issues

After changing a knock sensor on my 1999 VDP (I had used a code reader to determine the problem w/a "restricted performance" message), I am still having the issue and my code reader is identifying the knock sensor as the problem. My question: Did I screw up by using a magnetic pick-up tool to position the sensor on the stud on top of the engine? Is the sensor that sensitive?

just purchased 2 knock sensors from orielys for my xk8 and installed. cleared all codes immediately and cost for both was under $60. lines are just a little longer. bolt uses a 1/2 socket.
