Default How do you remove wiring harness clips from valve cover?

Sorry for such a noob question, but I want to replace the valve cover gaskets on my 2001 XJ8 and the wiring harness is clipped into the valve cover with little plastic cones that snap into a small round metal hole. Is the only way to remove it is to cut off the heads? If so, how does one refasten the harness afterwards? THANKS!

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X308 forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

Pick up these trim tools at a Harbor Freight near you: 5 Piece Auto Trim and Molding Tool Set

The old brittle plastic still might break in some instances, but these give you the best chance of removing them intact. If they do break, zip ties can be used as a substitute.

push them up from the back of the holes with something like a small bolt

Okay. So I guess the idea is to force them, and if they break they break. Thanks!
