Default Is it possible to install 4.2SC engine in NA XJ8?

Hi, i've just picked up the 2001 4.0NA XJ8 with an extremly good body condition (which is rare here, in Russia), but the engine req'd some minor works (the tensioner on the right bank cracked, the chain was ripped). After the partial disassembly i found that the engine in only good as a boat anchor, since it blewed 2 connecting rods (it was unable to see it until i've lifted the car).
I have a brand new 4.2SC long-block and blower.
So is it possible to install it?

Most things with cars are possible if you have the money. The real question is, is it an economic proposition? The engine will fit, no doubt; after all, Jaguar fitted them in the same engine bay. There will be differences that may not be immediately obvious, certainly the ECU will have a different program if it is the same part. Don't forget, also, that a SC engine needs an intercooler, and other ancillaries. The whole intake and exhaust systems will be different too. Diff ratio may be different.

So.........

I suggest you try to assemble a list of items required, apart from the engine itself, being those parts peculiar to the SC car. (Forgetting any non-mechanical bits like special trim, wider wheel rims, and so on)

Actually i can get any these parts for free - that's why i'm asking.
The economic propostion is that i can use the 4.2SC for free, i can do most of the mech. jobs needed by myself, i have all special tools. If i decide to get a 4.0 AJ27 it'll cost a decent sum, since it's almost impossible to find the used/new engine here, and the shipping from the europe/states is quite expensive.
The only things that stops me from dropping the engine in are the gearbox and PCM issues , so if it's possible to solve them without the total reassembly and buying the whole lot of modules - then i'm on it

you'd need the ecm and tcm and gearbox, and looms.

Then study the thread that Adam has for the details. 4.0 to 4.2 swap.

Ok, and what if i'll drop in the 4.2SC without a supercharger (like an NA version)?
The CR will fall down to 9.1:1 IIRC, which will allow to use the lower octane fuel, while the power loss will be not so huge?

Here's the thread that Sean refers to https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-thread-61113/ quite a bit of reading, I only skimmed the start of it, looks like you need to check Avos's thread that is linked from that one also. Good luck.

There's a similar question in the S Type section https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...10/#post520937

I'd be happy to do so.
But the prices are just mad over here I don't think that it's a good idea to pay up to 20-30k$ for a used 1998-2000 XJR (nikasil coated), not even in good condition.
I'm dropping the engine in right now, later, if i'll be able to remap the ECM, i'll supercharge it.
