Rear view mirrors
Hallo all,
I need to replace my R/H external rear view mirror glass - it has the 'dipping' type glass (goes darker when headlights behind are bright)....it seems to have bled inside, the bottom half is very dark, and the top half is 'normal'.
Are all XJ8/XJR electric heated mirror glass the same? Or are some only heated and not 'dipping'?
In fact, I think that I need to change the motors both sides as they don't work from the switch - any demon tips as to common faults?
Cheers,
Rich.

Per the service manual they all are suppose to do the dimming and reverse dipping.
My do neither!!!
I don't see any signs of fluid drippage, like my rearview mirror was. So, I am thinking the previous owner of my car, took the cheapo route and just replace the mirror with regular mirror glass, LOL!!

Two different functions here:
1. auto dimming (goes darker when headlights following from behind are bright)
2. reverse dipping (glass angle dips when reverse gear is selected)
In the UK, both auto dimming and reverse dip are options and not a standard fitment. It could well be different in the US and elsewhere.
The mirrors can also be 'warming' - electrically heated.
