Default 1998 XJ8 another no start and I'm desperate

Ok , hello gentlemen and thank you for all the great Information to date. My brother ran my 1998 XJ8 out of gas and it sat 2 years before it became mine . He says he had it towed home and put 4 gallons in it and it never started again. Fast forward and I have replaced fuel pump ( I'm putting a bounty on whoever designed those fuel lines under the tank ! ) , I removed coil packs , plugs , added teaspoon oil to cylinders and new battery, obviously drained old fuel and replaced with the good stuff. I still have a no start . I press the shraeder valve and fuel only trickles out. Relay is good ,fuses are good. I'm in love with this car and I will not quit until she purrrs back to life. I'm afraid i don't have an OBD2 and it's all being done in my driveway by yours truly. Any help will be appreciated. Quick question, does foot brake have to be depressed at start up ?

Happy Hippie:

" Quick question, does foot brake have to be depressed at start up ?" Ans: As far as I know, No... it does however to shift...

"I press the shraeder valve and fuel only trickles out." Sounds like no 12V power getting to where it's needed (because of no crank and no fuel). The attached file may help. Start there.

Best of luck.... Mark

If you remove the fuel pump relay (key on or off doesn’t matter) and use a wire to jump 30 and 87a directly across from each other, you should hear the fuel pump run. While the pump is on, you could go up to the schrader valve at the rail and carefully depress it to see if there’s any fuel pressure. If it still dribbles out, you either have a severely clogged fuel filter or the hose inside the tank came off. How many gallons of gas did you put in there?

Running a car completely out of fuel is never a good thing, but if it was just that, it should have
started once gas was supplied. The fact it did not, points to other issues, not the least of which,
is the lack of fuel pressure that is now in evidence.

As a fuel pump fails it will burn the contacts inside the fuel pump relay and burn the sockets on the pump motor connector

Quick try would be to jumper the relay

you should have a good relay control power fuse but you can check easily
