Default Supercharger Duct Seals sucked in

My 2001 XJR is in the shop for the 3rd time in less than 2 years as the Supercharger Duct Seals on the right side is sucked in. The original seals lasted 9 years and 94k miles and then failed on the right side so I had the dealer replace both sides. Then 9 months later and 14k miles the failed on the right side again after 5k miles and the dealer replaced them under parts warranty. Now at 118k miles and 16 months the same problem. Has anyone else experienced this problem or know how to fix this once and for all?

The old style ducts (original ones) where susceptible to this, and very common to happen. Now it will depend if your shop ever used the newer style duct rubbers/plates, as they have an extra ring to fix the rubber so it can’t move. If you have the latter it would surprise me they would get sucked in obviously, otherwise not.

Avos, thank you for your reply. I did contact my dealer regarding your post and they say they only use latest part, but they are going to check and make sure that any replacement will be newest available to them from Jaguar. I'll post any updates.

Just checked the partnos, if they have installed all the items below the last time you already have the new ones (do you still have the bill?):
AJ86926 1x Plate
AJ86927 1x RH plate
AJ86928 1x LH plate
AJ86925 2x Seals

Avos Thank you for providing the part numbers for the duct seals. I dug around and found this attached TSB that was sent to dealers many years ago that supports your findings.

Well my service advisor called from the dealership and said that his chief tech had pulled the same TSB and checked my repair records. And they had just replaced the seals and not the plates and apologized for the oversight and had already ordered in new seals and plates. They are going to take care of the labor and the seals and just charge me for the 3 plates. I think that is fair, no wonder I ordered my new XJsss (Supersport with the speed package) from them and that they had given me a fair price on the new car.

Hi Avos just joined the site after reading your info on supercharger duct seals being sucked in, i have had this happen to me for the second time in 12 months and after seeing your post contacted my mechanic who confirmed he only replaced the seals. I can't understand why the jaguar dealer did not bring to my attention about the additional plate but hopefully this will sort the problem i will let you know the out come.

The parts JEPC should make mention of the plates but does not. It would be nice if it made mention of a bulletin when it applied to a part.

The plates on my car had the lip on the smaller plates already built in...I just need the larger plate for the supercharger side on my 00'

The TSB 303-57 issued in 8/03 distinctly says to discard old plates and rubber and to replace with new parts. I am again attaching the TSB. IMHO the dealer should be responsible for any additional work that they did not perform that is stated in the TSB, my dealer did and all I paid extra was for the plates and they replaced the seals again when they installed the plates.
