Stuck Valet mode

Stuck Valet mode
I have looked through this forum for ideas on how to open my trunk. I have pulled all fuses and tried the black headed key to no avail. Unlocking globaly at door unlocks everything but the trunk.
Gas cap unlocks fine.
The Valet mode is on and wont shut off. I have no remote for the car. The key will not go beyond a quarter turn in the trunk and never worked anyway. Dont even feel anything happen when I try. Does anyone have other ideas ? Its a 2000 XJ8

Hi
I think you might try this procedure I described for SirJag that seems to lock and open all the doors, trunk and fuel door flap. Use this webpage link and then go to posting #7.

Hope this works on your Jaguar.

RIXJ8: Have you tried applying downward pressure at center edge of trunk lid whie turning the key? I've found this to work at times. The key is pretty stout, so you should be able to apply a decent amount of turning force. Once opened, I'd order up a new lockset (matched to vin), from the dealer, just to be safe. The new lockset will come with a key, which will work on everything except the ignition.
The only other choice I know of, is to go through one of the top two(I think) license plate mounting holes with a coat hanger, pulling left to right, while applying downward pressure to trunk lid to relieve strain. It does work. I accomplished this after some practice on a spare trunk lid I had laying around. However, I had to do it again without practice to no avail. Also, you may get hung up on wiring possibly causing some damage. But it can be done. Good luck.

After having read this, and having applied tons of libricant to the key hole, I went ahead with the fore mentioned action, and success!!!!!!
