Default How to remove side mirror from its housing of 2004 xj8

I am new, happy owner of 2004 xj8. Car needs some attention and a little of work. One think I need to do is to replace driver side mirror. Would like to change just the glass and live the servos and housing intact. Tried to find help in downloaded literature but didn't find the trick how to get the glass out without damaging anything. Any advice and directions would be highly appreciated.

It just pops out

Adjust the mirror glass so it it angled all the way in towards the door
Push on the inside of the glass and it will pop off
You can them remove the heater wires

Its all covered in the JTIS. You should not have too much trouble downloading a copy

Cheers

Mike,

I know not everyone has a copy of JTIS so here is the relevant section:

It's harder to break the glass than it looks.

Thank you both for quick response and help. It worked like a charm. Now it's up to me to determined what wrong with the servos inside. I have spare mirror assembly and can swap the servos. With my electronic background it's easy.
Few days ago I downloaded X350 - Workshops US001 to US005 but still missing US006 which is Body Parts. Any idea where can I find it?

Thanks to NBCat for putting me onto this tread. I've been looking for a/the way to remove the cover to send in for a paint match on a 'free' (now $3,800 into the 'free zone')
2000 S-Type 3.0L (my daily driver is a 03 STR, love it) now refered to as 'my hobby car'

Very, very helpful. I'm looking forward to seeing how it all comes of when the sun comes up.

Thank you NBCat for finding this thread and many, many thanks to you GGG for posting.
