Best Tires for the XJ8?
#21
I purchased a set of Bridgestone tires for my 2005 XJ8L about 2.5 years ago, but those happen to be W rated at 150 MPH. I never actually went anywhere near that fast (yet) with the Jag as I'm still in the 'high risk' category (with the insurance premiums reaching the stratosphere---and beyond). With that being said, I'm very satisfied with these particular tires as the ride is quite smooth and quiet.

Any recommendations for an XJR. Currently I have summer Yokohamas Advan V105s but they seem to break traction too easily. There is no way I can take off fast without the traction control kicking in. Pretty frustrating. I'm considering other options. I will probably switch to all season tires so I can drive it during the winter in Texas which are pretty mild. I would love to install a limited slip differential but I have spent way too much money lately. I need to feed my wallet a little.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

X-Ice Xi3
I used the Michelin predecessors on my "cough" BMW 530i and M3, and they managed to get about just fine in the deeper snows we had when I had those cars.
Hope this helps a bit...

On my 06 SV8 I put on Michelin® PILOT SPORT SS 255/40R19 from Costco for $265 ea installed, balanced with road hazard warranty. Y speed rating.
Much better & quieter than the Michelin PS 2 due to new rubber compound.
There is no equal to these hi performance tires. Noticible improvement during cornering.

Not Pirelli Scorpions, I got a little over 7,000 miles out of a set. The tire on the passenger rear wore down quick. This is the tire that takes a beating when the engine starts to pull.
All four tires were rotated and the best had 4mm tread left. Two were under 2 mm. Looked like drag slicks. Edges looked good and no cupping.
Let Discount talk me into a set of Continental Contact. So far so good. Going a little easier on the gas pedal.
A LSD would make all the difference.
