Default What is the real fuse Amp rating for F11 on XJ8

Hi,

I purchased this 2005 XJ8 a couple of weeks ago. When I bought the car, the windows were all down and did not operate. I quickly found 3 blown fuses in the Rear Power Distribution Box: F8. F11, and F25 were blown. (All other fuses in all boxes OK.) I replaced the blown fuses and the windows now work again. But, the car has the following weird problem: when the instrument panel dimmer switch is on (i.e., not fully in the OFF position, most counterclockwise) and the lights are on, the windows will not go up or down. I drove at night for the first time a couple of days ago, using both headlights and instrument panel lights. After this drive, even turning the dimmer switch off did not permit the windows to work. I checked the fuses and F11 is blown again. I thought I would check the wiring diagram in the 2005 MY Wiring Guide, and noticed that in the layout diagram, fuse F11 is rated as 5A and in the circuit diagram F11 is rated at 10A. Which one of these is correct?

Is the fuse on the left of F11 empty in the real-world car? or is it another 5A fuse in parallel for a total of 10A?

Have a look at the list of fuses in the driver's hand book sect 6-23 and onwards.

Each window motor has a 25 amp fuse

F11 is 5A and for lighting

@pkoko: All fuses only have one slot. Each one is numbered.

The window motor fuses are not blowing, it's the lighting fuse. Once it blows, none of the windows work. I think it is very strange that the two different places where the Rear Power Distribution Box fuse F11 is referenced, as mentioned it quotes 5A in one and 10A in the other. I just put in a 10A fuse, fingers crossed. Windows are working again, I am keeping dimmer switch off for now as I need windows to work for next two days since I am moving and lots going on. My SDD software and JLR Mongoose finally arrived; I have managed to install on my Windows 10 machine and have brought up to date to version 160.01.001, which by the way ran through 9 updates with restarts and took 5 hours. I have another thread on this ECM update issue; once the ECM is updated with the correct VIN, hopefullly next week, I will take another run at this fuse issue.

5a is the correct fuse. If a electrical circuit beyond the fuse allows for higher amperage that circuit will have it's own fuse. Hence the motors each have their own fuses.
