Default Stuck fuel door

I am sure this has been addressed somewhere, but what I've seen doesn't really address the xj8. Please direct me, if I am wrong. I have a 2004 xj8 and the fuel door gets stuck. I need someone to pull it open, while I push the release button. The latch is fine. Its just that the door doesn't pop away from it when it is released. The same happened when I used the trunk release. I pull the cable but while pulling I must place my fingernails under the door to get it open. I can see the latch releasing. But if I release the cable or the button, it relatches the door and I am unable to open it. Unless, of course I use my previously described methods. Any suggestions as to what the problem is? I just bought this used car. I'm still in my 30days/1000 miles period.

It's probably a spring in the hinge.

If you put a piece of sponge in the cavity, the sponge will push the door open *and* keep the leaves out.

Have you seen the attached TSB?

I'm not sure what cable you're pulling on here, there is no cable on the X350 trunk release. its a button. Anyway, the trunk lid relies on the gas struts to raise it so it doesn't relatch immediately. You could have one or both gas struts failing. Does the lid stay up ok ?

I am sorry, when I said "trunk release" I didn't actually mean for the trunk. I meant the fuel door release that is LOCATED inside the trunk. That has a pull cable.

How do you replace the spring on the release?

As described in the PDF file, order the improved part C2C24614. The spring dislocation should not happen anymore.
