Default Water pump-2005 xjr

Hello Gents, can you remove the water pump with out removing the radiator? on a 2005 XJR. Has any body here done this job that can give me some incite on whats entailed. Any more difficult than a regular V8.

It can be removed without removing the radiator. Not difficult at all. You will have to remove the coolant overflow tank and a couple hoses. Also loosen and take the belt off the larger black pulley that covers the water pump on the center of the front side of the block. That pulley has 3 bolts, if i remember correctly they're 8mm. Remove those and it will allow you to pull that pulley off and expose the water pump under it. The pump has a couple bolts, also 8mm. Comes right off. Make sure you change the seal as well.

Thanks again Jassyjags. I think I read I should use the original plastic impeller type would you agree?

Hi Ed,

Yes, you should use a quality water pump with a plastic impeller specifically designed to withstand the Organic Acid Technology (OAT) coolant used in the X350 (orange Dexcool).

A good water pump option is the Airtex AW4124, and it's just $32.79 at Rock Auto. Airtex/Wells is a Ford OEM and this is probably the pump Jaguar dealers supply (and Ford and Lincoln dealers supply for their versions of this V8).

The same water pump was used on the X308s, X100s, S-Types, X350s, X358s, the '09-'10 XF, early X150s, the Ford Thunderbird and Lincoln LS and several Land Rovers/Range Rovers.

Cheers,

Don
