I replaced both VVT Solenoids rubber seals. They had sprung a very slow tiny leak. Removal and installation couldn't be simpler: unplug electrical connector from VVT Solenoid, use a flathead screwdriver to pry up the old rubber seal, press in the new one, clean oil stains, replug the electrical connector. Done!

I put small piece of aluminium foil (from the foil wrapper of a Kit-Kat, [a Brit candy bar]) between the pins of the bonnet/hood security switch in order to short it out and stop the damn security alarm going off spuriously.

Just installed a new set of "aero" style wiper blades, as per Torrid's thread:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-issue-163404/

That's it for today. Will be installing my Nameless catalytic converters and new o2 sensors tomorrow! Big day!

Made a rig to test if the rims are true
Welded up a off-cut of RHS into an "L". Mounted a spare hub on one end and base for a dial gauge on the other.
I can now put the rig into my vice, mount a rim and use the dial gauge to check how true the rims are

I know one rim is bent (using the ripple strips on the track) and have sent that off for repair

I've checked 2 more and one is not bad enough to cause vibrations that can be felt but would if the alignment wasn't perfect.

2 more to check once the storms here are over possibly more to repair before the new tyres go on

Im also considering an extra set of rims to use for the track only

Cheers

I installed some new wheel center caps. Classic Growler with red background. Nice color accent on chrome wheels.

Default Clay bar treatment

Finished off the clay bar treatment on the paintwork. I had read about this stuff, so decided to give it a try, and what a result it gives too ! At the same time, I also bought some expensive carnauba wax-based polish and now my paintwork is as smooth as silk, (mostly, as I still have the roof panel to do).

What was astonishing was washing off the panel, then claying and seeing what the clay brought off a theoretically clean panel.

I opened the front doors to see if the car would rise on its own as the passenger front air spring was on the bump stop. The others were ok though.

The car did not rise under its own reserved air reservoir. I will start her up tomorrow and give her a good telling off for being faulty again.

Discovered a slow leak from one of my tires recently. Was losing a couple psi of pressure daily is seems. Good thing I have a portable air compressor, one that plugs into the cigarette lighter. Spent a few minutes topping up the air while I walked around the car admiring it. Will probably do this every so often until I find a permanent solution (could be tire puncture, or damaged rim, not sure yet).

A lot of spiderwebs accumulated over the years on the hood, so I did a 2-stage polish on the front end and it looks like a million bucks now.

Anybody have tips on removing scratches on the black pillars? Not sure if it's safe to put a machine to it.

I've used polish and an orbital buffer on them. Worked fine.

On Saturday I cleaned and polished my fog lamps, then decided to try a bit of interior light modding...I replaced the green clock light bulb with white LEDs, then wired up another white led, cut open a tiny sliver of the underside of the dashboard top, and placed the LED snuggly inside. A nice white light now shines down over the central console area. I'll take a pic later.

In the third pic, you can see the small channel I cut into the dashboard. It's only visible if you duck your head low enough to see it. As for the purple lights, that's a kit I installed last year for fun. You can set it to any color you want with the included credit card sized remote control. You can even adjust the brightness or set the colors to rotate, and adjust the speed of said rotation. And you can turn it off when you want to be serious.

Those illuminated sill plates I got off ebay from China. The picture looks awful, but they're really cool in person. When the door opens, the sills flash from one side to the other, then fully illuminates. And just before the interior lights are about to turn off, the sills will flash slowly until they turn off completely. Very cool.

Today I had my new Pioneer AVIC-8200NEX shipped. Also purchased a CANbus node to give me proper speed sensor, rear parking brake, reverse and illumination inputs to fully leverage the navigation in the AVIC. Steering wheel input will now call up Siri. I get front and rear systems, front and rear cameras, ApplePlay or AndroidAuto. Finally, the XJ8 comes into the 21st century! Speakers and a kilowatt of amp are prepped, sub and enclosure is ready... it won't be long now...
