1996 Vanden Plas - Coolant leak
Took the car out this morning to airport and back and saw coolant dripping in the drive way. After parking in the garage noticed coolant continuously dripping from around the oil pan. Coolant low indicator is on now when engine is started.
I purchased this car in May 14 and the prior owner had all hoses changed. I had to once top off the coolant recently. Never had any engine heating up or any problem so far. I can't see where the leak is, but somewhere near the engine and seems like it is accumulating and dripping from sides of engine. Could a hose clamp be loose? Would water pump be out? By evening have lost a lot of coolant and is still dripping.
I have an auto shop in less than 1.5 miles. Can I fill up the radiotor and drive
Or would that cause any damage. Any ideas please?

A year after replacing hoses on my XJ6 I have found an occasional leak from the block connection under the intake manifold.
The aluminum of the fitting was pitted due to corrosion, and very difficult to clean. The same to the back of the water pump.
It can be very difficult to tighten the clamps without removing the air pump, but that may be all that is required.
Go ahead and add water, or better yet 50% antifreeze, and keep a close watch on the level indicator. The temp. gauge will not go above mid point if you begin to overheat, so don't drive a long distance before getting it corrected.

Found the source of leak. The upper radiator hose had a micro leak. Either a bad hose or my guess is, based on the location of the leak right next to the end clip, as there is no clear access to tighten the clip screw, the tiny hole seems to have come from a screwdriver slipping and punching a tiny hole. That explains intermittent leak for the last 3 months and recently because of pressure, penny size burst.
The hose is inexpensive but I may have to tow the car to get it changed. Hose is below fuel line and not sure want to mess with it. Relieved no major problems.
