I do believe that URO has become the OEM supplier for hoses (GOD help us!) if we can find who was the "real" OEM supplier for the hoses and if they are still making the hoses we need, we might be OK. I know some guys have replaced their hoses with URO, but the upper radiator hose I replaced felt like playdough compared to the original. Only reason it went out was because it was leaking at the ends.

This is giving me flashbacks to 1999. I was 16 and was driving my first car: a 91 Mercury Sable that had been my grandmas, only had like 20k miles on it. Loved the car but that damn starter solenoid by the battery went out every month. I must have bought /exchanged 20 from Ford and they all went out. One day I went to HI/Lo and bought an aftermarket one that was way heavier and sturdier. Never had a problem again. Turns out Ford was selling Chinese POS ones and somehow HI/LO was selling AC delco ones made in the US as originally supplied to Ford.

One should really at least have the certainty that if one is willing to pay dealer prices for OEM parts, that is what you actually get. Specially Jaguar. Its like there is absolutely no quality control on the parts for older models and who supplies them......"""oh so the E type, XJS, X300, XJ40, XJ SI, II, III owners need parts?---let's sell them hoses made of cotton candy and brake pads made out of sand!!""".

I received my six coil packs today from autopartsway. Sold as eurospares, I actually received Lucas. Doesn't say where it was made, but Lucas is laser etched on the coil pack.

My observations, after removing my coil packs, 4 were factory Lucas with a date of 1996. Two were Lucas and clearly marked Made in Japan. Clearly replacement at one time.

Installed new coil packs with new RCY12C (XJR)and the car runs perfect. No missing, no idle shake, more power and no hesitation.

Cost...plugs, coil packs and gaskets $331 US. Plugs from Rockauto CHEAP!!!

Such a nice feeling when you have had coil problems for a while and you get new coils The car just purrs the price is soon forgotten

Unless like me first time round cheap Chinese ones that joyous feeling only lasted 2 years LOL

FWIW....

I came across another vendor selling coils on Ebay. The photo in the listing clearly shows the black "Made in Japan" label AND an older style Lucas label. This is the "Lucas 42533D" type coil, not the currently offered "Lucas DMB411" type.

The text of the listing says the coil is "European Made" and "Eurospare" brand.

I wrote to the seller asking if what he ships is the same as what is pictured in the listing, with the black Made in Japan label. He replied simply that he couldn't provide the type of coil in the picture....and ended the listing.

<shrug>

Cheers

Default coil question

When you find a bad coil is it best to change them out in pairs? according to firing order?

There's no need to replace more than the known-bad coil. In fact, given the known poor quality of some replacements and unknown quality of others, a person might be better off running with as many still-good originals for as long as possible.

my local Jag dealer has 6 coils for the AJ16. About $330 NZD each plus 15% sales tax.
big bucks, and I don't have a problem, but tempted to get one or two for a rainy day.
They are in Genuine Jaguar packaging, and simply stamped "Made in Japan", no other branding

I find it hard to figure the price differences.....$331 US for 6; $330 NZ Each, either way I've got 1 or 2 failing in my X300 3.2. Wonder how much I'll pay in Oz $AUD?
Do Autopartsway sell online?

I am sorry, I am the one that stated before British Parts UK carried Japanese coils, but they seemed to change the supplier early this year.
I run a Jaguar parts shop in Japan actually, I sold a couple of Lucas coils and got complaint after all... I am now asking them if they can still sell the Japanese ones.
If only I could get coils directly from Diamond Electronics, why do I have to buy Japanese products from UK with high shipping cost!? lol

This seemingly endless merry-go-round of label engineering and supplier/manufacturer changes gets very frustrating.

I'm just grateful that my car is running very well these days. Hopefully I won't have to face the coil issue again for at least a few more months. By that time I'll know if my latest purchases stand the test of time. It's a little sad when you've feel joyous simply because your brand new igntion coils have lasted a full 12 months.

Cheers

I still waiting to find out where the latest batch of "LUCAS" boxed coils is coming from .....these are without the "Made in Japan" label and that are out there for 60-80 each.

Default Lucas DMB411 report

Heh heh....

Well, I have my first Lucas DMB411 coil failure. This is the type that comes in the green Lucas box and has "Lucas DMB411" markings.

Ha! What's it's been? Five months? These are no better the the Beck Arnley type.

Rummaging thru my boxes I was delighted to discover that I still had one used OEM coil left. I thought I used 'em all up. Either that or it's a dud that didn't get discarded....but it working well at the moment, at least.

I'm throwing in the towel on new coils. I'll just gonna buy a few more $20 used coils....true OEM, of course.....and call it good No doubt some will fail from age but, heck, if they're only gonna last six months either way I'd rather have a $20 coil fail than a $100 coil fail

Cheers

Yes, and buying results in a bill that is almost as much as the car is worth. They are only a capacitor. Jag is a RIP OFF!!!

When I first bought my X300 almost 2 years ago I purchased 6 new coils to have on hand. So far I have not needed to use them. But now with my stalling issue discussed in a post a few days ago I may have to change the coils.

I bought theses:
6 Pack NEW Jaguar XJ6 X300 Ignition Coil Pack 94 97 | eBay

I thought I was getting a bargain at the time but now I'm not so sure! Has anyone had any experience with the coils from this seller? The coils come in a white box labelled YB-A247. There is no brand or any marking on the coils so I haven't a clue who made them or where

I would be interested to know if they are any good as I need some and the local dealer will be wanting several hundred per coil

I made a contact with Diamond Electronics in Japan. They say they are still making the coils for X300. I am asking them where they supply the part. They might not tell me the source abroad, but at least they will provide me a wholesale company in Japan. I will keep informing when I have got an answer from them.
