today drove about 60 miles at good early Sunday morning speeds on empty roads.
Then got home and removed the two low beam headlights . One had a broken 'socket' and was loose and jangling on every pothole, as well as pointing down too much as a consequence. The other had a socket that wont click on properly. Both were very hazy inside.
I had two good secondhand ones I washed in dishwashing liquid and warm water, then dried in the oven on 50'C. Mercifully they both went on easily while still hot from the oven. I have lubed the ball/socket attachments with some silicone grease I happened to have. Both have new Narva Plus 100% 55W bulb, and clean lenses, so should be way better than before.

While the lights were out I taped up the broken bottom edge of the headlight trim where it lines up with the front guard panel, at the lower outer aspect of the headlight surround trim. One or both sides have been clacking on potholes, along with the broken light, and the crappy plastic trims over the air filter on one side and washer bottle on the other. they are all jiggly, and these various loose bits make the car sound like it is falling apart on rough streets - not very 'Jaguar', old chap!
So hopefully a much quieter low speed ride now.

Yesterday I cleaned and treated the seats with Lexol, the dash with some non sheen dressing. Cleaned some minor spots off the carpets and polished the wood trim. The interior of my car is still in really good shape and I want to keep it that way. My car is just about to turn 150k, probably this week.

Installed ADD WW1 oil catch can between cam cover and throttle body (TB), hoping that keeps TB clean . Capped off vacuum that was on original "TEE" hose.

Fitted a sub-woofer and amp by tapping into the rear tweeter wiring. As per the thread on the subject.

Default oil catch can vaccum line

Uncapped the vacuum line and "T"ed it into the oil catch can line via a T fitting I made. Now if all goes right it should work the same as stock.

I replaced my rear disc pads and bled the brakes using a Gunson Eezibleed kit.

Whilst I had the car up I replaced the anti-roll-bar bushes with polyurethane ones and put on new drop links as one was rattling. Handling is improved.

Reworked intake plumbing to the MAF. Old cold air setup was two 3" ducts into holes cut in airbox lid, one ducted from behind mesh grill and other from the hole in side of fender behind headlights. Now trying a single 3" duct directly into MAF from pod filter behind grill.

That looks like a nice clean set up, Let us know what kind of performance you get from it?

This is what mine looks like minus a plastic shroud

Thanks. For less than an hour worth of install work and less than $100 worth of parts/materials I think it turned out well. "Seat of pants" testing results seem to be no change, plus or minus, from my previous setup of the dual ducts into original airbox lid. Going to run it for a bit before fabricating a rain shield/splash guard for the pod. May end up going back to previous setup.

Renewed the b*st*rd hose on the lad's 96. Hope this one lasts longer than the 4500 miles and 9 mo. of the one it replaced. Back in January, I renewed ALL coolant hoses....a few months later the water rail gaskets let go...now the b*st*rd hose...what next?

Default I replaced the "worn out" brake pedal pad!

MTC makes a replacement pad now. Jag part #C21515. Available on ebay. Their Compatible Vehicles list doesn't show that it will fit the X300s, but it does (I confirmed via parts manual before buying). According to that list, this same part has been used on the Jaguar XJ since day one 1969! Could it be that this is the ONLY part on the entire car that is the same as used in the XJ6 Series 1???

Anyway it is a good rubbery part that fits perfectly and looks much better. Makes me not want to put my foot on it.

I also found these do-hickeys new on ebay. Part #EAC6805. Again, not listed as for the X300, but exactly what you need. However they don't come with the nut.

Oddly, this is my first post to this thread, although I have done a lot of things to my X300 on many days. Go figure!

Today I just drove my car and enjoyed it.
Last week I washed and waxed, then drove it Monday. Tuesday I had to drop our family Subaru off for a new radiator and for 3 days I drove the 'courtesy car' while I waited for the Tribeca to be fixed - I was driving a 2000km 2016 2.5 Subaru Outback that I think they were hoping I'd buy. I hated it, it was a piece of whiteware. It did everything fine, but felt every ripple or bump in the road. The seat is too hard to be comfortable, and the Lane Departure and Stop/Start drives me nuts - I choose to slightly cut corners, and don't need beeps to tell me off. Yesterday I drove 20 mins to work in it. I left home in a good mood and by the time I got there I was in a foul mood. That doesn't happen in a Jaguar.

I got our Tribeca back last night, drove it home, and it felt like a familiar old friend even though it is not special.
Then I extracted my XJR from the street, washed 3 days of birdshit of my wax job, and drove 4 km around the block. What a difference! We are very spoilt with the Jag ride quality and driver involvement. It re-affirmed my need for a Jaguar. Life is too short to drive whiteware...

My 75 yr old uncle just phoned to say he has bought a 1992 Series III Double Six, which has had all the bushes underneath redone, and has 24,000km on the clock. He drove it 100 miles home the other night and is raving. He's had 3 or 4 X300s and a 3.2 V8 X308, and now this Series III. We were discussing my Subaru experience. We are spoilt.

Today I met an 84 year old man who has an XK120, a V12 E, an X308 XJR and a Mk II. His disease is worse than mine. He loves them all. I need him to tell my wife that 2 Jags is not enough...

I decided to make my XJ6 my first priority since I use it at my Daily. The heater quit working and with the cold weather I couldn't defrost the windshield. I searched the forum and found the appropriate thread. Replaced the brushes in the motor. I made the mistake of thinking that the canister like thing with the four hoses was the pump, wrong, it is the heater valve so removing that was just extra work. I had a problem with what I thought was a bad drive belt, which was screeching on start up. It was getting bad so I decided to replace both belts and the a/c tension roller. Again a thread posted on the forum gave great instructions. After I removed the throttle body intake tube I saw there was quite a bit of grease in there so I cleaned the rubber bellows and air intake.

I had gotten tired of holding up the hood with my head when checking the oil, so I replaced the prop struts and now I don't mess up my hair. I cleaned the terminals on the battery and put it on the trickle charger since I hadn't driven the car for a couple of weeks
and it was slow to crank. Cleaned off the crusty battery terminals. I ran it through the car wash and found that the wipers weren't working. I had knocked the wiper plug loose during all my fiddling with the hoses. I had ordered all these parts online and they came mixed with the Christmas orders. I also ordered a set of trunk lid struts, and a fuel gauge sending unit. I've got to run the tank down a bit and remove the trunk liner, so I'll replace these items at the same time. Mileage at this point is 153, 450+. I sure did miss driving this car, I was fussing the last few weeks with a couple of my other vehicles.

Love, It's what a makes a Jaguar , a Jaguar.

Put snow tires on yesterday. I hate the lug nuts, worst design ever. I'll have to buy some more replacements this winter as some of them are getting to the point where I can barely get a socket on them. I wish I could find some solid ones.

Default Cheap Quarter Turn Nut replacement

I was tired of the quarter turn nuts that hold the covers on both sides of the engine compartment falling out and breaking at $10 a pop. I went to the local hardware store and got a Chrysler 12-34 license plate nut with black pan head screw and neoprene washer for $2. they snap in from the top and screw down so they should last and hold very tight. Not OEM, but look like it.

Chrysler License Plate Nut

Panel screwed down with neoprene washer.
