What is this thingy (part) called?
I just had my windshield replaced and found this center black cover piece cracked this morning. The part I'm talking about is just south of the windshield wiper in this photo and has a curved crack running through it. I'm talking about the horizontal black plastic cover piece.
If I know what it is called, I can then try to get a used one from someone parting their car out...
Thank you in advance

It is not really about the money, it is more about the fact that it happened, that I would obviously find it, and they did not tell me about it. So far, I'm not impressed with this. The rest of the install went very well and they did a nice job. $329 USD.

Hi Newby
Sorry about your engine cover damage.
I am sure you will be able to remove and install the engine cover, but it is nice to have instructions with the steps, precautions and illustrations:
Here is a JPEG that I made from the Jaguar Shop Repair Manual (You can increase the viewing size with the view zoom in your internet browser 125% is good):
Hope this helps

Yes, I've called them and emailed them photos. Of course the original response was "but we don't touch that part". I've made it clear that my review on YELP will be honest and accurate and will report if they do or do not take the proper responsibility. I've ordered a replacement part for a total cost of only $45 delivered, so that is all we are talking about here. The owner is supposed to call me back Monday to let me know what they decide to do.

Maybe they leaned on it?
Anyhow, the good thing about your engine bay being so dirty is that you should be able to tell if the damage was recent or not.
Just remove the 2 broken pieces and look ad the surface of the crack, it that black and shiny? ( recent damage) or brown and dirty? ( old damage)

As I mentioned in my other tread -- these guys are forced to work too fast ......... I have never had any problems with the actual windshield installation. It is always a plastic piece cracked or the wiper is not reinstalled correctly.
And ..... don't think taking it back to the dealer will be any different -- they call the same people ...

Years ago, I had a similar situation. They put about a 10" scratch into the area where the vents are below the windshield, and never said anything about it. They obviously hoped it would slide, but it was down to the metal. When I showed it to them, they said they don't do anything that could cause such a scratch.
It was a brand new car, about 2 months old, and I was only 19 years old, so they probably figured I wouldn't fight them about it. But at 19, I earned all my own money doing construction, so it was very valuable to me.
I assumed that somehow, they got a belt buckle up there and was trying to explain to them how that could work. Well, while I was talking, I noticed a guy pulling a windshield from another car and he slipped with the glue removal tool (A very stong Knife on the end of a handle). It was perfect timing! They promptly had my car sent to a body shop for repair.
AND, I'm assuming someone lost their job that day.

Honestly, I'd never want anyone to loose a job over a simple mistake. And, I have no way of knowing if the same guy scratched my car as the one I saw. If it was the same guy, I figure he might be looking for a new job.
