Cool Swapped transmission - array of fault lights!

Hi Guys, I have read a lot on the forum, two days worth, still cant get there, my problem is I swapped transmission with identical one, now an array of fault lights on , failsafe brakes gearbox fault etc. any ideas what the problem could be, she also wont start.
now guys in all the other posts everyone seems to wander on to check starter etc. I have touched nothing else all engine fine I just swapped gearboxes and they are all of the same.
Thanks for the future, must get this resolved to go to Scottish show. she is a 1998 xj8 3.2 auto 308

luckie,

I've moved your question from Jaguar Forums Advice / Feedback & Suggestion Center to X308 forum. The Advice / Feedback & Suggestion Center is for posts about the forum and NOT for technical questions.

Members here with the same model will be able to help.

Graham

Ok, assuming you made it to here, what does "won't start" mean? Won't crank? Cranks fine, but no fire?

With the little facts you gave, I would suspect the battery, a power cable, the engine gtound, or the inertia switch.

I would love to see the method of changing a transmission and "touching nothing else"! You get my point?

yes i know what you mean, well disconnected, all the cables and linkages etc. as what my man said he replaced everything exactly the way it came off, he replaced my engine last year without problems, could the faults be staying on, as my old box was knackered ?
I got him to change filter while he was at it, I read somewhere there is a clip that must be in the proper position? if I am desperate. Yes she cranks without any problems
I hope this helps, I can only tell you what he has told me at the moment.

Hmmh... Well if she cranks, then the battery and power cables must be fine. The CKPS (and its connector) on an X-308 is down at the bottom of the bell housing, so I might suspect that got buggered. There is no chance he changed the flex plate on the back of the crank, is there? And what OBD codes are you showing?

Hopefully, motorcarman, Brutal, or one of the other Jag mechanics will come along and offer you some real help.

Did you swap in the transmission computer that goes with the donor transmission?

A bunch of what would normally be unrelated failures suggest to me that the computer is seeing low voltage. Try a know fully charged battery after resetting the computer. Disconnect both battery cables and touch them together to discharge all the capacitors.

Also be advised that the O2 sensor connections are not fool proof and could be exchanged side for side. This will manifest itself with a "restricted performance" indication and absolutely awful running in closed loop.
