Electrics, 1998 XJ Sport
Hi All,
I have recently bought a 1998 XJ Sport 3.2 V8, lovely car but unfortunately as I am finding out they do have their electrical faults. The car runs like a dream and the Autobox is smooth so day to day driving is fine. I have the following electrical problems
Key Fob does not work, I can put the car into learn mode (i think). the light flashes near the gear shift although no sound from the alarm?! I have cleaned the contacts which were completely black but still not beeping or light flash when trying to programm the keys!!
Rear Tail Lights/Front Fog lights do not work at all. The bulbs look fine on both. Should I change them anyway and hope it works?
Wiper blades have a mind of their own. They take ages to turn off and they never stop in the correct position.
Also the light for the clock and the individual buttons on the radio console etc do not work although the display is lit.
So far that is all i have to sort out, If anyone has any advise on any of the problems above please do help.
The main issue is sorting the key fob, could i buy a new one off ebay/amazon etc? What part number would i need if so?
Thanks in advance LT

Do you get a "chirp" from the alarm when you lock the doors with the key. My first jag had the problem of no chirp and found the alarm siren unplugged (front right engine compartment LHD). Plugged it in and had chirp with key lock.
My car did not come with a key fob and I wanted to add one but wanted to make sure car would go into learning mode to program new fob. Well, no chirp when attempting to enter learning mode. Ended up swapping out Locking and Security module and then I got chirp into learning mode so was able to buy correct fob (car is late 97 and needed 433mhz transmitter) and program successfully. Research correct frequency for your car (security module) to confirm correct fob.

This section of the forum is specifically for the 6 Cylinder cars from 94-97. Your 98 V8 car is covered by another section and the guys in there will have a much better idea of how to help. Suggest you repost your question there or may be an admin will move it for you.

Hi tabz89,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.
I have moved your thread from the forum for the X300 to the forum for the X308, which is the Jaguar factory project code for your 1998 XJ Sport. Here you will find knowledgeable members with similar cars.
I have also revised the title of your thread for clarity by adding the model year of your car and by separating XJ from Sport, since visually it looked like "XJS...", and the XJS is a different Jaguar model entirely. It's a good idea to add the model year, model and engine size to your signature line so others won't have to ask in future threads.
Please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum and post an introduction so we can learn something about you and your Jaguar and give you a proper welcome.
Cheers,
Don
