Default How to remove side mirror cover

I am thinking of wrapping my side mirrors with carbon fiber film and wanted to know if the side cover panel just pops off some clips at the mirror base at the red line below or is it held in place by some other fasteners under the mirror itself?

Hi Vector,
Please find attached the removal procedure for the mirror covers.

You will have to remove the glass first in order to access the inside of the cover.

Hope this helps.

So the glass just pushes out towards the outside to remove? I had seen this procedure written up before but it is not really clear how the glass releases from the backing.

Hi Vector,
The glass clips into the motor assembly.

By holding the inward side of the glass whilst gently pulling at the outward side, you are, in effect, levering the glass away from yhe motor assembly.

Hope this helps.

This helped save me $. The mirror in my color was selling on ebay for $50 more than one in another color. But having a can of touch up paint and one of clear coat, it is the right color now. I got the cover off and back on no problem with these instructions. It was surprising how quick and easy the glass popped off when you know the trick.

Thank You

Welcome to the forum Jetset767it,

Two issues here:

1. this is the X308 model forum for the 1997-2003 XJ8
2. until you have minimum number of Posts/time on forum, you can't download

Time isn't a problem as I see you've been a member since April 2014.

Hmm, I'm worried I'm missing something here...

I have a replacement wing-mirror not yet attached to my car. I'm attempting to remove the mirror glass so I can then remove the backing cover to repaint it (I may be fussy, but don't think the gold colour will go well with my black XJ).

I can tip the mirror outwards, as per the diagram, and push the edge away from the car and pull it slightly away from the unit but I'm paranoid the mirror will break as it doesn't seem to be releasing

Any sagely advice?

Troy.

Okay, so, I figured this out...a bit of patience, listening for the click, once you get it, it's easy
