Default Master key and valet key

Hi I have been having trouble getting my 1998 jaguar xj8 out of valet mode, for my father lost both FOB's. I saw on here that all you need is the master key, to take it out of valet mode. I have tried it dozens of times now, with no success. Now my question is will the valet key being on the same key ring as the master key affect the fact that I can't manage to exit valet mode with out the FOB? I also tried the master key in the trunk key hole as well, but since I haven't used it in such a long time, it seems to be stuck. Can someone please help me with this so I can go ahead and access the battery to change it. Having mentioned the need to change the battery I have been using a charger/jumper unit to provide power to the car.

You can keep spraying a lubricant into the lock barrel and working the key to get it to rotate and unlock. I use my master key in my boot lock every few weeks just to make sure it gets some use and remains free.

I don't think you can configure a new fob to the SLCM if it is VALET MODE.

Why not just take one of the keys off the keyring and try it for yourself?

Thanks motorcarman I will be attempting the lubricant tip you suggested now that I am done with my shift.

Plums, you make a very obvious answer to my question!!! LoL, yes I will be separating the keys, it just didn't come to me at the moment.

Hlgeorge, it's ok we all get a bit lazy and not read every thing on a thread.

Once again I send out a big
THANK YOU to all who posted some tips, for I will use them, along with some patience, in the first step to get her going.

Thanks a bunch bob, this managed to get the key to turn 45 degrees, and I was stuck yet a again. But I began to browse around and found another post for someone that had a similar problem. And Rae posted his suggestion of applying downward pressure on the trunk lid as I turned the key. I did so, and success!!! As soon as I heard, and felt it; it was as if the pearly white gates of heaven opened!!! And not only did it open, but it turned off my valet mode.
