Default replacement seatbelt problem

Hello everybody
This is on my wifes 2002 XJ8. the passenger seatbelt jammed up so I removed it and was going to replace it with one from my 2000 Jag that I parted. I cannot get the latch pawl to release so I can pull the seatbelt out. Neither car has been in an accident. What is the trick? Did I screw up when I removed the unit from the parts car and let it go all the way in? Or?
Thanks you in advance!

Anybody?
I cant believe that not one person has had this happen to them. It would figure my luck though.
Hopefully I can get an answer.
Thanks

Try hooking up the battery and hitting the brake pedal?

Hold the seatbelt unit as near as possible to its fitted orientation, both north/south, east/west, then GENTLY try to pull the belt out.

You have to be patient, and gentle, while moving the unit very slowly/gently left/right, forwards/backwards... it will, with some/a lot of patience become free, the trick is slowly/gently, after a handful of chill pills.

DO NOT clang it, bang it, shake it, throw it across the workshop, or swear at it, because all that does is make it mad and even more stubborn to undo!
