Stuck in Park: Assistance Required, Maybe some Help? LOL`
I think I could have safely placed "HELP@@!!! in the subject line" based upon the fact my car is stuck in the middle of the road??!! LOL it is in a share lane and my neighbor can get around but it is still a hassle.
1998 Jaguar XJR, owned since 2007 127K very well taken cared of.
My transmission shift cable must be stretched out? ( stuck in park ). Does anyone know of an easy way for me to get it into neutral? I need to push it so it can get towed and with the position of the car I am even unable to safely get it towed..
thank you

Is the shift lever stuck in Park or does the car stay in Park no matter the position of the shift lever? If the lever is stuck in Park, you can unscrew and remove the plastic plug to the left of the lever and insert your key and press down. This will release the shift lock solenoid and allow you to move the lever to neutral.

I backed out in reverse and when I slide into drive nothing. Car would not go into any gear and appears to be in park in that I can not push it forward or back. I've got a 705 code. I unscrewed the star fitting and negotiated it back into Park. I can now slide it through the Jgate but nothing works. It's in park. I need to get it out of park into neutral. Any thoughts?

EDIT: If the cable is actually broken, you might be able to move the lever without removing it... try that first.
Under the car, on the drivers side of the transmission there is a lever with a cable attaached- that is your shifter cable. You should be able to reach it without lifting the car IIRC.
A 13mm wrench (I am pretty sure) will remove the nut holding the shift cable arm and allow you to slide the arm off. Take a pair of pliers or vise grips and grab the shaft the arm was attached to and turn it counter clockwise (Again, I think this is the right way) this will give you reverse or neutral on the next two clicks.
I have a freshly removed shifter cable if you need it, just shoot me a PM for details.

This saved a load of headaches

What a superstar! Though your post was about a year ago I came across it and it's saved my life. I had the whole back axle, suspension, the lot, out of the car for refurb. Put it all back together except the prop-shaft because I couldn't turn it to put all the bolts back in as it was 'stuck' in Park. I assumed I needed all the brakes bleeding, seats back in so the electrics are right etc before it would come out of Park under 'normal' situations. But, your temporary solution has saved a load of headaches...many thanks!
