What did I do to my XJ8 today? I took it to its third MOT in a week. And it failed again.

Incredible ride and love the vids! Very useful mod, the hood vents! The XJR should have those from the factory.

What did I do to my XJ8 today? I pulled off the motorway following a horrible noise and found myself dragging the broken pieces of my black undertray out from under the front of the car and putting them in the boot.

Poly front shock mount bushing kit. Pretty minor but I'd rather not risk getting dinged on disintegrating foam in the safety inspection. Found a dead wasp nest under the drivers' shock mount plate.

Also found an XJR in my local junkayrd, for probably the first time ever. Went to go pull the wheels off, and in the 3 days between the car showing up at the yard and me getting there, the recyclers had gone through that section of the yard and pulled all the wheels. I saw the full set of clean Pentas sitting on the top of the recycler's dumpster, where only the recyclers are allowed access to.

At least they left the full set of Penta lugnuts, which seem to be even harder to find than cheap factory wheels.

Default little backlogged

Okay. Not been on for a while. Let's widen my input to "what did I do for last couple months"
- replaced serpentine belt.. wow was that easy! took about 15 minutes.
- then the driver side wheel bearing seals gave out (one after the next) and I had to have a local shop replace wheel bearings.
- for fun I had pipes installed replacing the middle resonator and the last two exiting the back. Kept two of the resonators in. Not too loud, and now the cat purrs at idle and roars when pushed.
- then the fuel pump went out. That pretty much was the end of the fun stuff.

That's it.

new member, and like MS308, what did I do this month, bought a 1967 420 and the 1999 xj8 from a fellow car club member. left the 420 in the garage....awaiting more attention than I can give it right now. Trailered the xj8 home, been sitting over a year, last fuel added November of 2013 ...no start. changed the fuel pump. starts now. chased asc faults, abs faults. p1467 p1466 o2 codes. Square tires. learned a ton on this forum ..thank you, thank you, thank you. Ordered top front shock plates, and lower rear shock bushes, o2 sensors top and bottom - left and right, took the car for a wheel balance... they refused to touch 2004 date coded "dry-rotted" Michelins. Put a new set of Goodyears on her. topped off the A/C, cleaned the interior, put leather treatment on seats and door cards, trying to decide if I have a cabin air filter??? Found the PO had left the plastic cover on the wiper blade... wondering how to get the scratches out of the windscreen??? Can't get the drivers pass door to lock or unlock with the remote????

Welcome on the forum.
Seems you did your homework, and tackled quite some issues, great!

I presume you got a new battery too? If not, that might very well be the reason for the codes.
Start with a new battery and an hard-reset, and it might also solve the passenger door issue, although that might be the control box as well.
You will need to do some elimination work there.

Your car does not have an cabin filter.

I have plenty of scratches in our SLK front window, and never really managed a solution.
In spite of some YouTube videos, I don't believe they can be polished out.
Waxing the window helps temporarily, as does applying a petrol based scratch remover, however, it is all temporary.
There is a professional way to remove them by basically removing a very thin layer of your window, but I have no idea of the pro's and con's.

Clayed mine Sunday, in the middle of wash and wax. It rained 6 hours later, as it always seems to.

I'm just driving it and getting really great mileage out of him...

Reichweite is German for range. In KM that is 704 km range... Okay, I am tricking it, as I only use petrol on cold starts. Rest of the time I use gas (careful! My gas is real gas, not gasoline!). Real bargain banger.

Just the cold start problem needs to be solved. Still won't run well on initial start up. When driven for about 1000 m (0.75 miles) all is fine again. In the same period you can't let off of the gaspedal as the engine will cause a bang in the car's drive...

Don't the gauges look strange with just the KM/H markings on? I'm so used to seeing them as MPH with the KMs marked on the inside. I wonder why they styled the KM Gauges with little "Teardrop" shapes for the increments and not the MPH?

Glad you're enjoying it, I can speak a bit of German I learnt at school. I'm tempted to go to night school or something to learn more, I was quite good at German but the colleges I attended didn't offer German language courses.

As for me, I've done nothing with my 308 the last 4 days because it's still at the body shop. However I did give my mats a bloody good scrub with hot water. I did it in the bath using the shower to rise the soap off, obviously I wasn't in the bath too! :P
