Talking Just so you know...

If anyone has an extra XJ220 just laying around out behind the garage that the wife thinks it's an eyesore and just wants it gone and she's badgering you day and night to get rid of it, I'll give ya $50.00 for it.

You know the V12s are a headache to fix and you know the transmission is a pain with all those gears. Besides, you know you and your wife hate having to get on your hands and knees to get in it anyway. Then you know you're going to fall asleep while driving because you're practically laying flat.
Getting out is a huge PIA too, rolling around on the ground, killing yourself just to stand up straight again to close the door, and lord help you if you park on a mud puddle...oh my!

True, you can park in the front row of the neighborhood drive in movie and still see the screen, but eating popcorn and drinking orange soda can be a pain in the butt. Especially when the lid pops off the cup when you're sucking on the straw, which causes a chain reaction resulting in popcorn flying everywhere.

And all that glass to clean!! You almost have to tape your cat to a stick to clean the inside leading edge of the windshield!! You know what I mean....don't you...

I'll make the sacrifice, save your marriage and remove the burden on your cat being taped to a stick and dowsed with window cleaner. Just say when, I'll come by with a trailer, I'll give you the $50.00, you give me the title and I'll load kitty myself, you don't even have to help.

Well doggone Marvin, I really hate to pop your bubble.

(He said as he gleefully proceeds to pop your bubble ....!)

You do realize, don't you, that other than than maybe the original concept car (or cars), the XJ220 came with a turbocharged V6. If you've really gotta have 12 cylinders, you'd better come up with another 50 bucks and shoot for a package deal on two of 'em.

Guess you can have the cat stand down .... he/she is safe.

Although if I had a 220, I'd probably take you up on your offer. At my stage of life, I have a helluva time getting in and out of my XJ8, never mind something even lower!
Stylistically, I place the XJ220 right up there (or to be more precise, down there) with that other doorstop looking vehicle, the Triumph TR7.

Done! I can squeeze that much more from the vault I'm sure!! My lowest car ever, wasn't a TR7, when I was 16 I had a TR3, been hooked on the British motor world ever since.

Now, about those XJ220s.....

Wink

*laugh* .... ok, first this is a thread over a year old, so my apologies for bringing it back to life, but it was pretty humorous so couldn't resist.

And second, I suspect it is near sacrilege, but I have to honestly say I've never been impressed with the final execution of the 220 in both engine and styling

So along with the practical issues, I personally too wouldn't look down my nose at that $50 offer

.

There is an article on the XJ220 in the November edition of "Classic and Sports Car".

Only 280 were built, and the article explains why the "production" version had the V6 installed. Development costs were about 1% of the Bugatti Veyron. The whole thing was developed on a shoe string.

i suppose Jag did the best they could with available money! seems Ford kept the company alive (thank heavens).

What if TATA decides to bring it back with a V12 turbo, and they got the money to do it and more!
