Default Antenna replacement

Good morning and thanks for your answers and help

In my new car the antenna didnīt raise when the radio turned on. I have dismonted the exterial part and I see the master is broken, donīt know if some part is inside the motor module or the last owner has taken ii out. Anyway, do you know the reference number for buying a replacement? donīt need to be original, and a good place to buy it?

Thanks

Hi Irgabor,

Replacement antenna masts are widely available from our forum sponsors and also many eBay sellers. Here's one example:

https://www.ebay.com/p/Antenna-Mast-...d=392010258747

As you can see in the photo, the mast has a long toothed Nylon/plastic "rope" gear:

Typically, either some of the teeth on the Nylon rope gear strip, or the gear breaks, so that when you pull the antenna mast off, part or all of the gear is left down in the motor housing, which is mounted below the rear fender behind the carpeted trim panel.

You can try to remove the gear by turning the key to position II (ON/RUN) without starting the engine. Then turn the radio on. Part of the gear may begin to extend upward from the motor. Grab it and pull it all the way out if you can. If the end of the gear has a smooth taper, you may have gotten all of the gear out. If the end is broken, part of the gear is left in the motor housing and it may interfere with the installation of the new antenna. Your only option may be to remove the motor housing from below, open the case and remove the broken section of rope gear.

If you get all of the rope gear out from above, installing the new antenna is easy. Remove the chrome nut from the base of the old mast by using a small wrench on the two flats of the round nut. Your new antenna mast may come with a new nut; otherwise you will have to reuse the old nut by transferring it to the new mast.

Installation is easier with two people. While you hold the end of the rope gear of the new antenna above the hole, with the gear teeth facing toward the front of the car, have your assistant turn the radio off. Press the end of the rope gear downward, and when the motor begins to run it will grab the end of the gear and pull it into the motor housing. Feed it into the motor, taking care not to allow the metal antenna to scratch the paint on the car. When the antenna mast approaches the hole, carefully feed it in and watch to ensure that the motor retracts it all the way down. If not, have your assistant turn the radio on again, remove the antenna and rope gear, then repeat the installation and try to get the rope gear to engage the motor as soon as the motor begins to run. This should align the rope gear with the motor so the antenna will be fully retracted. Once you're pleased with the installation, carefully thread the nut into the hole and snug it with the wrench.

If the rubber grommet has deteriorated, replacements are available.

If you have to open the motor housing to remove the broken rope gear, be sure to reconnect the drain hose that directs rainwater through the floorpan and out of the trunk.

Cheers,

Don
