Default Water Leak in Driver/ Passenger Footwells

Took the 91 Sovereign through an automatic car wash yesterday. When I pulled out water was pouring down on my feet and on the front passenger side as well.

I've taken it thru other auto car washes before and this never happened. However, this was the 1st time thru this particular car wash. Maybe it was the angle of their sprayers...

Anyway, I'm sure there is some drain(s) that is clogged. Where can I hunt down these drains or other advise, please?....

Have a look around the front scuttle panel.

Thanks Jim, but I have no idea what or where the scuttle panel is located. Under bonnet, base of window?

Base of the window where the wiper arms are. Somewhere under there you should find some drains.

There's a rubber drain device called the duck bill, located in the engine compartment under the wiper motor on the firewall - sometimes it gets blocked and the water in the scuttle overflows into the blowers and then onto your feet - check it isn't clogged before you do anything else.

Many owners, including me, removed the duckbill and left it off. My assumption is that it was designed to discourage insects and small rodents from nesting in the comfy space under the windshield cowl, but all it seems to do is clog with seeds and leaves and cause water to pool and eventually overflow into the passenger compartment.

I think it should be routine maintenance to remove that cowl panel once or twice a year, just to clean out any debris that may have gotten down there. From years of doing restoration work,I've seen many cars with a buildup of leaves in there. Damp leaves trap moisture and rust will eventually form.

So here's the duckbill of my 91' Sovereign. Good call guys! I don't think it has EVER been cleaned in it's 25+ year history (I've had the car for 2 months 56K original miles). Now the automatic shoe washing feature has been disabled!

Oh must check this!! I had a very surprising foot bath after the car wash the other day myself, have been racking my brain to figure out how it happened.

THANK YOU!! it was absolutely packed!
So relieved it was such a simple answer to my footwell leak!
How many of you remove and keep it off vs who will chop the opening to be larger and re attach? Is it really necessary?

I've chose to leave it off. No issues...
