Closer...
Yesterday afternoon, I greased all those Dirty bits under Nix's back end (the last remaining bell guard is going away at the first opportunity!), cut a new carb to air cleaner gasket and touched up the paint where the gravel driveway had beaten the black off showing the Yellow (yech!).
When I get home today I'll put the rear tires on, leaving the fronts until we get the hood laid in place, as it will be easier without the front tires in the way.
I read a trick in here somewhere recently, to remove the grill and make fine adjustments in the hinges through the hole, then replace the grill. That sounded like a Capital idea, because the last guys to replace the hood made a hash of it and caused Many Large paint chips on the fenders! (Turkeys!)
After that I can put her feet on the floor for the first time in 9 long months, do the final tightening of the front suspension parts that require the weight of the car, and then I can see how different she drives.
I'm getting excited now!

YIPEEE. NIX can see out the open garage door to the glorious road awaiting!!!
1. Hate to spot a fly in the soup! As to the backup plan to get to the SMOG place. You may need current registration. The tech connects with the master computer in Sacramento. I suspect it wants to know it all.... . and, a manual temp may not be registered in the central.
I suggest a call to a reliable source. AAA or SACTO DMV, a local may mislead you.
2. I suggest fender clothes or even tape and paper to protect NIX's bonnet and wings on the reinstall.
But, a nick here and there is far from the end of the world.

Thank you, Carl, and Clarke,
I have no doubt the registration will be needed, however, DMV has helped out on that, Believe it or not!!
At the bottom of the ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF NONOPERATIONAL STATUS RECEIPT is a small notice that reads thus:
"If you decide to renew/operate the vehicle, this form may be used to renew until 02/10/16.
*Evidence of liability insurance required
*SMOG certificate required (take this notice to a SMOG station).
*Pay the appropriate fees. "
As soon as I'm sure it will run OK, I'll make an appointment at the 'local' DMV office, take my checkbook and acquire whatever moving permit I can. After that I'll make an appointment with one of the 'local' SMOG shops, request a Pre Test, and if it passes that, get the Real test. If she passes that, I'll just drive her home; AFTER a trip past the S-curves just to remind her what she's been missing.

Getting the hood from where it's been stored to where it has to be is gonna be Really Interesting! WE might have to enlist the assistance of our Big Beefy Neighbor, and that will take scheduling for 3 parties involved.

I have a sneaking suspicion, that we will not hear from LnrB for a while...
Because, when the bonnet and front wheels are back on nix, LnrB will be off and cruising around in nix ( and good luck to her ), too busy enjoying herself to bother about sitting in front of a computer and letting us know how it went!
Well, for a few days anyway.

Security Wires
I just finished putting security wires on the rear caliper bolts.
What a *Nasty* job that was! Not only because it's still very Dirty and Greasy down there but it's so cramped!
It didn't help any that I've Never done that, had no idea what I was doing or how to proceed, only that logically the wires should be put in such a way to tighten the bolts not loosen them. I had examples of other wires, especially on the Rhonda IRS, but how to get them there is still a complete mystery even though husband presented me with a pair of wiring pliers (stupid looking things) and a roll of wire.
But while I was at it I decided to wire up the front calipers too.
I imagine it's like a lot of other things, if you know how it's easy and it takes a Lot of practice to know how.
At any rate, that's one job I will Never have to do again on that car!!

Hood/Bonnet
This afternoon I got the hood bolted down with NO new chips in the paint!
I scribed around the hinges when we removed the hood, and it seemed logical to put the hinges back in those exact positions when putting it back on.
If you look closely you can see my lines.
It closes Perfectly, and only took me about 30 minutes after I had help wrestling it over to the car and rough bolting it.
Then, as I had the air cleaner on, and everything connected, I started her up just to check things out. As I now had Power on everything, I stomped HARD on the brake pedal. It was squishy.
There's a small puddle under one of the rear calipers, Someone (I know who) didn't get the bleeder tight when he bled them. By that time it was hot under there anyway, so he can fix it later when he gets home.
If things keep on this way, I'll be making an appointment with DMV for a moving permit to go to the SMOG station.

Four On The Floor!
After no less than TEN MONTHS Nix has her feet firmly planted on Terra Firma.
Oh, she's happy!! I can hear her purrrrrrr from clear in here!
Tomorrow she gets her suspension bits tightened and a good bath to remove all the shop kooties and finger prints.
Then DMV for a temporary moving permit, then to the SMOG shop, and Then, it's the Open Road!!
