Default Rear brakes

Hey guys and gal
Just wondering if it is possible to change a leaking seal in one of the rear brake calipers without removing the caliper from the car??
I have done it before on the front brakes on my toyota van, but that is a completely different beast.

I wouldn't think so , but stranger things have happened on these forums.
Maybe someone has had a go at it.

I don't know how you could possibly do it, Richard. It's almost like they started with the diff, rotors, calipers and built the car around them. Everything is so crammed! I would think it would be easier to just put on a new caliper and that won't be "easy."

Richard:

I thought about it for a bit. Doesn't seem feasible.

1. The front calipers are on a flex line. The rears are connected via a hard line.
2. No E brake on front. It is a formidable critter In itself and bolted to the caliper!!
3. Those two attaching bolts are much less accessible than the front counterparts.

In a nutshell, One can do the front caliper while it is hanging off the brake line. Not possible astern.

And, if one is leaking, the other three are not far behind. OK to ask me.

If one seal is leaking its time to drop the diff and do the whole lot imho, also a good time to replace rotors and pads if necessary then you wont have to touch it again for a good while.
My car had sat dry for 7 years and the back end needed new pistons and seals, rotors, pads and handbrake pads, those parts were all cheap from ebay

I agree, hooter!
Had it not been that the exhaust system was welded (and husband Really Wanted to be able to say, "I did that!") we would have dropped Nix's IRS.

We'll have to next Winter anyway for seals.

Yeah, I was afraid that it would involve that sort of work. I don't have the tools, space or funds to do it. I am trying to sell my Jag, so I am going to have to sell it as is, and infom the buyer of what they are going to have to do. Means selling it for less, but at least she will get what she needs. Oh well, thats life.
