I can not find:
piston rings JLM1818S
Big end bearing shell kit RTC2854S
Crankshaft Main bearing kit JLM1817S

HELP!!!

This situation came up 6-7 years ago on another forum. Apparently the demand for these parts is quite low so, naturally, manufacturers have no interest in continued production.

I'm fairly sure that the parts were *eventually* located them....a bit here, a bit there...from several aftermarket suppliers who were surely happy to get rid of them.

No longer available, and no-one is interested in making them either.

Best bet is to call EVERYONE in the game and ask around, you might get lucky.

And send an email to these guys Genuine Jaguar Parts and Jaguar Accessories for classic Jaguars from Jaguar Heritage Parts UK and tell them you want the parts. If enough people let them know that the demand is there, maybe something will happen...but if they don't get the requests, then nothing will ever happen...

The AJ6/16 engines are just too durable!

Many years ago one of the larger Jag dismantlers here in the USA had 2-3 dozen of 'em....all low miles, great shape. He couldn't get rid of 'em. He advertised on all the usual forums and was down to something like $300/each and still no takers.

same here,had three complete V12 engines,,one a carby XKE ,two FI engines, had them for close to 10yrs,this was 2003, NO takers.

finally had to move ,so went to the junkyard, $75.dollars, for the bunch.
and into the shredding machine, i alomst cried,knowing someday they would have some value.

While you're looking for the parts you may also want to look around for unsold NOS long and short blocks as well. Like the others have advised, these engines have proved to be so durable that there just isn't any demand for rebuild parts.

As of yesterday, everydayxj.com had some of them listed. The big end shells I think.

I found shells and bearing. SNG Barrat helped.
It remains to find a rings

talk to TOTAL SEAL GAPLESS piston rings company,USA.

i have used many sets of rings from them,never any problems.

they can help i'm sure, they can tell you how to meassure the pistons.

I decided not to make a new post.

Your opinion of the piston rings need. Rings need 91mm. I found several variants

This is Total Seal and Sealed Power with different coatings or metals. And the price also.
What's better? Your opinion and experience.

91mm? what pistons are you using custom or off the shelf from other manufacturer?

i have used Total Seal for over 25yrs , never any problems , and never any measurable blowby issues! i like that plasma coated top ring,(low friction), the oil ring is the best of my knowledge for oil control and low friction drag!

and some times i have really abused them with turbo boost and overheated engines.

anyway thats the ring set i would reuse in my V12.

but do call and talk to there reps, i have always had good service, measure bore accuratly , and your old ring, thickness of top ring, second ring , and oil ring assembly!

This is AJ16 4.0L pistons.

The rings are different
Sealed Power is Moly and Ductile Iron.
Total Seal is Plasma-moly
What to choose?

Plasma-Moly, are barrel faced coating, would be my choice! Total Seal.

of course you could try something else, your choice!

my understanding ,Ductile iron with Moly inserted face is OLD way of doing top ring manufacture, i have used them back in 1960s.

on the bearings and such, if no one has anything , then get a good engine bearing catalog and slowly go thru sizes and just maybe find something that would fit!

time consuming and measuring old bearings and crankshaft and con rod/main bores.

lets face it aint gonna be easy, HOW is your luck running?????

may be nesasary to alter/machine the big end of connecting rod fit a usable shell/bearing?

hope you dont have to, but i have done pinned steel insert main shells ,align bored to fit a usable bearing that fits properly!

just think of the experience/knowledge you gain!!! LOL

time for a different engine.

another thing you may alter on bearing shells is width or tang removal!

tang just grind it off with light polish, easy, but make sure you have the right crush fit, thats what really holds the shell in place!

if you have the right shell to crank journal SIZES, you can make an aluminum bung for the lathe and machine off the extra length , chamfer edge while at it!

Darn ,I see you found some shells after all!

This will be like selective shells.
I now have two sets of shells different brands.
I'll measuring bearings and crankshaft and conrod main bores
And I hope will to select up as it should.
