which alternator? 1994 XJS
I have been looking online extensively for the most affordable option for a new or rebuilt alternator and really not coming up with a direction to go.
Many go with the GM alternator swap, although with the kit, that price is a bit expensive. Heard a rumor that AutoZone alternators are Bosch, is that true? Or would a Napa Alternator be good enough?
The current dead alternator on the XJS is a NipponDenso. Would that be OEM?
Thanks all.

I had to replace my alternator about a year ago. I called around and found a rebuilt at Advance Auto. It was the exact same Bosh I removed to take in and match up the connections and bolt pattern. If I remember correctly it was less expensive then Pep Boys, Auto Zone, Napa, or O'Reilly. It also looked new not rebuilt.

Most of the alternator units you'll find at the common US autopart stores will be "remanufactured" units (hence the core charge).
Autozone does have the 75 amp Lucas (for my 88 XJ12) as well as the Bosh 100+ amp alt for newer model years when I looked recently.
I was looking for a replacement alt with more amps, and after much searching and running around, found that the easiest option is to find a hole in the wall alt shop and have them rebuilt it (135 amps on mine).
