Convertible top pump is ??
Sorry guys.... Can't seem to locate the pump for the top to see if it needs filling. My top is going up, but not down and I want to switch to manual if I could only find where the pump is ?? Trunk ?? Thanks... Guess I should have stuck to my easy chair rather than a XJS!! Although I think I moved it and now it's lost !!
Thanks,
Ken

Take the rear compartment completely out. Thats what I did. It is a pain, messy. I don't know what yours is doing, but mine had a bad pump seal. Bout one on eBay for 14.00? The main thing though, is re-filling with the proper fluid. The original fluid has been discontinued, but the correct fluid is a aviation style fluid that is so thin its scary. BUT...using the correct fluid makes the pump draw far less amps, which in turn, makes the rear power windows work so much better, because they feed off of the same electrical post. Once I put the correct fluid in, the rear windows work great! But the top works great too! All the way down, or up, in about 6 seconds

Good point about using the correct fluid.
The Univis J13 mineral oil that is specified by Jaguar is indeed an aviation grade oil made to MIL-L-5606 standards. The problem is trying to buy it in small quantities. I've only seen it for sale in 5 gal drums which is obviously waaay to much.
My solution was to go to my local private airfield that has a maintenance hangar. They have drums of the oil lying around and were happy to sell me a few pints.
Whatever you do, don't use a synthetic oil or a power steering oil as it is likely they will eat up or blow out the seals.

Thanks guys.... Primarily, I leave the top down as the car is garaged and I only take it out when it is nice. I was doing some work since last summer and decided to run the top up. It went up but does not come down !! I can still hear the pump trying to raise it when pushed but no sounds to come down. I thought I would find the pump and switch it to manual rather than taking the rear compartment out till next winter.

you don't need to take everything apart
1993 xjs convertable, not the 2+2
Jst open the hatch of the rear compartment, on the passenger side of the compartment there is an upholstered piece thaat is removable. I was able to refill mine at this point, unfortunately I have a leak either in the hose or more probably the cylinder on the drivers side
