Default In Dash Computer

Hi,
I have a 95 xjs convertible 2+2(actually 94.75). Are all convertibles 2+2?
On my dash I have a clock and was wondering if I replaced the clock with the in dash computer along with the corresponding wood trim will the computer work? That is do I have the necessary module in my trunk/boot?

Jomo,

Unless there's something bizarre about US cars, the answer is absolutely Yes. I've done it to a 95 & 96 car. Just plug it in and everything works straight away.

This thing......

As well as being a clock and trip computer, it also gives you the FF fault codes that accompany the check engine light. Quite useful. As others have said, the wiring is all there.... just get a trip computer (and the panel surround), unclip the 4 switches at the sides and add into the new panel, and you are good to go

The panel you see in my car came from Pauls Jag off ebay..... he has some more left...... http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Gorgeous...-/111542697254

Definitely plug and play.

Definitely no FF codes on the 95 and 96 models. We have an OBD2 port for that.

Panels for the trip computer are still available new from JDHT, by the way.

I do not think they will work in a facelift car.

Any year will work? Model dac 4296? The fault codes will also work with these computers on my car?
Thanks so much,
Jomo

DAC7362 is the one you need for an US spec XJS 95-96.

The older models will not work.

How much with shipping to the US. Please understand that they are on sale at ebay for $45 but I would prefer making the purchase from a forum member.

Jaguar XJ6 XJS Trip Computer | eBay

Thanks,

Works on the v12 as well as the I6.

Facelift cars all have the same later trip computer. I very much doubt that you'll find a facelift computer for $45! If you can find them working at that price, buy every one you can find! In the UK, a facelift computer is usually over £125.

Facelift cars are all XJSs built after March 1991. Any car that has a VIN higher than 179737 is a facelift car.

Paul,
The ones I saw for $45 were pre facelift cars. The newer ones are much more than that! I was not aware that there were two types. Thanks for the reply.

The US cars computer reads in US MPG, DAC7362. The others read in UK MPG, DAC7361. The Lt per 100 KM reads the same

malc4d,

Good point. There is a different part number for UK computers (and a different one for Japan).

I guess the fuel flow sensor just sends flow signals and it is the trip computer that determines a value of actual fuel used. So it is the US computer that is necessary for US gallon calculation compared to our ones which do imperial gallon calculation.

So a non-US computer would probably work but you'd get Imperial Gallon consumption figures (which would make you feel better!)
