Fog light bulbs(what does yours use?)
Hi All!
tried to go buy a fog light bulb last night.....
the store did not have or carry H2 bulbs...
then they ask me well, what year and all
I told them 1992 Jaguar XJS and they told me that I need an H3 bulb...
they were very insistent that is was an H3 and that there computer is and has never been wrong....
did not matter that I told them I took it out and held it in my hand
they said some one change my fog lights... I said No... I have the owners manual and it says it is an H2 also...
so I find that the Osram Sylvania site also states that 1992 -> 1996 uses an H3
so I know what I have (JLM 9588 ie H2 55watt hella ) what do you other 1992 -> 1996 XJS owners have for a fog light bulb...?
I called Osram Sylvania and let them know that their online database was in error regarding my model of car...

I am designing my own... based on 10 to 100 watt square LEDs
I currently and running experiments using the 10 watt and lenses I need darker sun glasses for higher wattage experiments...
I am looking to generate and nice beam patterns... that will not blind on coming traffic and put the light where it will be most useful....
and yet retain the classic look...
a brighter bulb is not always the brighter solution....

Original hella Foglights all have h2 bulbs. In my opinion the H2 bulbs overheat and crack the lenses.
Since my foglights are for looks rather than for use, I made bigger holes on the back of the lenses and put H3 WARM WHITE LED's. The warm white led towers look like a stock bulb, you don't get any of those tasteless LED colors or the LED "look":

here is the results so far
I did not think of CLR...
I will go pick some up....
I used ("laughingly" Scope mouth wash, to clean the rubber and Q-tips to reach in and clean the lens) rinsed with 91% alcohol
new bulb and I need to check to see that it is getting power as it dose not light up...

I think the H2 is the way to go.
My Mark VII also used the H2 bulb, they're stupid hard to find, and neither H1 nor H3 would do the job despite the parts store's insistence. I luckily had a pair that I never got around to installing (more rust problems - I didn't want to lose a fight to a screw) so I've got them in case the Jag's fog lamps take a turn for the worse. They don't work anyway, but I somehow don't think it's the bulbs.

had to take a razor knife and scrape 1/32 inch of oxidation off the bulb holder now the bulb gets power...
I HAVE 2 FOG LIGHTS AGAIN...
oddly the one I worked on has a better pattern....
maybe I need to work on the supposedly good one next...
