Music wherever she goes! XJS V12
Hi
Today I made an expensive trip into an Audio Store to buy myself a new radio for my XJS although according to the 'young shaver' who was serving me.
What I really needed was some ICE! so that in his own words, 'I could really put it down!' whatever that means?
So not wanting to show my ignorance of being Audiophobic I not only agreed with him but added that 'I wanted to put it down as much as I possibly could'
But even so no quite as much as the system he was showing me, that cost more than one of the old cars I used to own.
What I ended up with, was a nice piece of ICE which included a CD and MP3 Dongle.
So what I need to know now is the way to wire it up.
Is it a case of just finding the right adapter plug, or would I need to cut and join some wires?
Maybe someone who has done this can advise me what to do, as this is a job that I would really like to do myself.

Yep, a whole new language in the retail world these days.
I have changed a few over the years, and always made my our loom adaptor. The chances of finding one for the vintage system is remote at best.
The NEW unit will have a loom usually with tags on the related wires as to what they operate, such as "Power, Ign, Earth, Antenna power, etc". If not, then a diagram which will be colour elated, Red for 12v, Pink for Ign, etc.
I use a Narva 8 pin loom male/female connectors, and solder the wires. I use 1 for the power portion, and 1 for the speaker bit. Time consuming, but that never bothers me.

Orangeblossom. You may be lucky and the new unit may plug straight in to the existing connectors, if not it still will only take about an hour if you have to splice wires.
The new stereo will have all the leads labelled so it will just be a matter of matching up with the existing loom.
The existing speaker wires will (probably) be twin core, one plain and one not plain (usually white/black and white or black/black and white); the two tone one is the positive side of the speaker. Then all you have to sort out is which speaker fed goes to which speaker!

Hi Grant
I am with you on that one! there is a whole new language that as of yet I do not understand.
As up until now I always thought that something called a 'Sub Woofer' was a Dog hiding under your bed!
I think the young man in the Audio Shop must be a big fan of Jesse 'J' as if things carry on like this I'll have to get a dictionary of Street! and I don't mean an A to Z either! 'if you naw wut i'm sayin!'

I hope its that simple!
All the wires on this thing are marked but I'm wondering if I am going to need to take the car apart to hook it up?
